784 with $1 Blast Zone
« on: April 29, 2010, 02:18:51 PM »
Well, I ended up picking up a Blast Zone on ebay for the hefty price of $1 plus shipping and with the help of Mo Pinel on the layout it did pretty well on its first night out. Wasn't to keen on the out of box finish when throwing it prior to league so I took the surface up to 4000 and the ball came to life.

244-240-300 for a 784

What is everyone's favorite surface for the Blast Zone? I'm wondering if I take the surface back down on a sport shot if I'll get a similiar reaction as I got with the 4000 on a heavier houst shot.

Had mine at 500 Abralon with light coat of Brunswick High Gloss polish...ball just killed medium conditions.

2000 Siaair with a light coat of Snake Oil worked great for me on our slightly heavier than normal house shot

I never tried it with any other surface.

Great shooting!!!

Most of the ones we drilled ended up with some polish. For heavier oil it did very well around 1000-2000.

i LOVED mine at grey scotch brite, roughly 800 grit, AKA super dull. it killed heavier oil patterns and really got into a heavy roll. probably favorite oil ball all around.

So you guys saw the same thing I did, the ball tends to labor without a higher surface or polish on a house condition, but when there's some volume out there you can keep it around it's box surface and it'll perform just fine.

I haven't thrown a Big B ball since my Danger Zone, and I'm glad I decided to add it to the arsenal. Between my Storm and Columbia stuff I think I have all the ball reactions covered.

It seemed the Blast Zone was not held in high regard overall, but I've seen some people get a very good look with it. To me, it appeared to offer similar ball motion to a Storm Dimension. It was very smooth and rolly, which is always nice when you need traction and control. Great shooting, man!

I applied Ebonite Sandblaster compound to mine (600 grit aprox). With my low rev rate and higher ball speed it's a pefect match for THS playing ten and out. Gives me a few extra revs too! Current favorite ball of mine! But for a dollar?? What a STEAL!!!! Hey GREAT set BTW!!!

Congratulations on your 300 and nice series.  Didn't take long to pay for that ball.

I love the $.99 steals on eBay.  Feel bad for the people selling because who wants to sell a ball for $1 lol

Yeah, well I still had to pay $20 shipping, but the ball itself was a dollar. Picked a Power Groove from the same guy for a $1, can't wait to drill it up. I love the low end pieces of equipment.

I think this made my decision for me, I think after this experience I'm going to go ahead and drill up the 3.5 over the Invasion for the summer Sport and tournament season.

Well, hate to post the constant figjam, but the Blast Zone keeps making me a believer in the Big B. Once again the ball that seemed to take the "house" out of the house pattern for me was the Blast Zone. The ball has a control drill and it allows me to play the lanes vertically (like a sport pattern) and not really rely on any friction horizontally thus avoiding the average league bowler.

Once again the ball performed amazingly, although I must say it does have one of the weirdest rolls I've ever seen. At this point I've labelled what it does going down the lane as the "barrel" roll, but either way since putting the ball in my bag I've been averaging 250, and tonight I added another 300. Here's hoping that I can chill with the low middle game and get this ball an 800.

300-222-242 for a 764
