Nexxxus, DV8 Brutal Nightmare, or Aura
« on: January 31, 2013, 09:34:15 PM »
Have an ultimax now and love it.  By far the best ball I have owned to date, but I get a new one every year due to the amount of games I put on them.  Most of the guys in our house are storm rollers, so I dont get to see much of my brunswick equipment work before I buy it.  What are your thoughts here?

Here's my take:

Nexxxus (copper &  graphite) will be a bit stronger than your Ulti Max, maybe 2 boards. Perhaps the strongest pearl I have used in terms of being able to handle some oil.

Aura is very clean with a strong move late.  For me, I play a similar line as a stronger pearl, but with the predictability of a solid.  In my first month I had a 290 and a 300 with it.  You can add surface with good results, too.

DV8 Brutal Nightmare is one I have not thrown, but it looks like a possibly a little stronger than the Aura. Not sure, but that is my guess.  Hope this helps.

Nexxxus f(P+S) is a very strong pearl ball that can handle medium to heavier oil conditions. It has a very strong move when reaching the friction that doesn't stop. It is more of a skid snap type of reaction. I have a pin up and pin down which both are very strong in the back part of the lane.

Aura is a strong ball that has a smoother overall reaction and can handle heavier oil conditions. It doesn't have as sharp of a movement as the Nexxxus when reaching the friction, but is still strong overall. Mine is drilled pin down and has a smooth arcing motion.

I haven't thrown the DV8 Brutal Nightmare enough to have an opinion. I have my Nightmare and Brutal Nightmare opposite of each other. My Nightmare is pin down and is 3 boards stronger than the Aura. The Brutal Nightmare is pin up and has a stronger finish downlane than both the Aura and Nightmare.

If you are looking for a house shot ball, I would suggest an Aura or Brutal Nightmare which would take better to surface adjustments than the Nexxxus.

Another stronger motion ball that would be good for a house shot would be a Meanstreak Brawler. It has the hybrid coverstock and can handle medium to heavier oil. Mine is pin up and has a strong reaction to friction.

The Nexxxus like Brandon said is a strong pearl with a skid/snap change of direction at the breakpoint.  The Aura is a little stronger than the Nexxxus in overall hook but has a strong arc with continuation on the back.  I don't have any experience with the Brutal Nightmare.  I also would suggest the Aura or the Meanstreak Brawler for overall versatility and surface adjustments.  The Brawler is a little better match up for control on typical medium volumes while the Aura handles a little more oil with more recovery on the backend.

Brutal is going to provide a similar shape but handle a little more oil than the ulti.  It is definitely stronger on the backend than the XXX

My buddy has both the Aura and the Brutal. Both seem real similar is response to friction and or strength but the Brutal is clearly the earlier of the two to read the lane. That sounds/reads kinda stupid so I hope you understand what I am trying to say. As for the Nexxxus, I have thrown and seen a few thrown and they remind of an Aura with more angularity at the back.

I'm not a Brunswick staffer and I've only thrown the Aura, but I own that ball and it has the most continuous drive through the pins than any ball I've ever thrown.  It is also far more versatile than I expected it to be.  I am lower revs/speed stroker and have mine at 2000 abralon with a 50x4x30 layout.  Fantastic THS ball.

I'd go with the xxx and drill it similar to your ulti I have an aura and a nightmare and the nightmare was the strongest of the 3. But the reason I say drill the xxx is it's going to be the closest ball motion wise of the 3 to your ulti the ball is an absolute beast on the back just like my ulti is.
