Then just ignore it and any other factory surface.  There is no rule that says you have to keep the factory surface on a NIB ball...

Just saw Parker Bohn''s Anacondas drilled for the Great Adventure series.
This ball looks NOT like P3-4000 grit matte finish, as previous 220 grit + Rough Buff finished balls have looked in the past. This ball definitely almost has a light shine to it, like someone took a very used P4000 grit pad to a P4000 grit finish ball. It has that light shine that normally says the pad was too used.

So I''d guess that 500 grit SiaAir pad is closer to 360 - 400 grit US and the application of RB on top of that makes it smoother still because RB is such a rough abrasive. You might want to take a P4000 SiaAir or Abralon pad to this ball. In stock form it may not handle the oil you think it should. Try and decide!!


I''m guessing that "Activator Plus" has been upgraded from "Activator+" for the current oil environment and that most of the difference is there. After all it''''s been almost 4 years or thereabouts since the AI was around.

In general, I think you''ll find that when they use Rough Buff on top of a 220 grit US sanding, you can approximate that surface with something between a P3000 grit and P4000 grit pad, when you take up in the proper sequence (i.e. P500 grit, P1000 grit, P2000 grit, etc)

However, see my edited comments about the Anaconda in a previous reply.

I saw these balls last week when Tom Smallwood got them, the 4.5 and anacoda both looked polished. Much more shine than any rough buff balls I have seen.
