Wicked Seige
« on: January 17, 2011, 01:22:38 AM »
Just got one thanks to Brunswick's new mail-in-rebate. My question for everyone with a Wicked..... how strong is it? I know the Alpha and the 3.5 are stronger, but how does it look compared to a 4.5 or a 2.5?

I've drilled up two B's within the last 2 months- the Wild Ride TE and the Wild Thing. W.R is a great ball, even yet strong and controlled. However, the W.T. is a bit of a disappointment- very long (even with pin under bridge and surface at 1000) and not very strong. It rolls better with some carry down, but not my favorite ball right now.

Have you drilled any Wicked's? What kind of drill, and what kind of reaction do you see? I know about RG strengths and coverstock preps, but I'm looking for something that will complement my 3.5 when it starts checking up early and forgets how to finish.

Thanks for any insights!

The wild ride goes too long but rolls better on carry down? I think that goes against bowling physics.

My wicked siege is pin down, but still very long with a very hard snap at the end of the pattern. It's actually uncontrollable for me. It doesn't have much bite in the oil so it saves a lot of energy downlane, then it hits dry and goodbye.

IME the Wicked will read the midlane sooner than either the 2.5 or v4.5.  As for overall strength, it really depends on how much friction there is on the lane.  The Wicked handles volume better, but it does need some oil in front in order to be the most effective.  In contrast, the 2.5 and v4.5 handle friction really well, but can tend to be a bit oil-allergic.

FWIW, I use my Wicked on conditions where I'd typically use something like a Red Zone or Zone Classic.

Hope this helps.

The Wicked Siege is cleaner than the 3.5 thru the front part of the lane but has a more angular backend reaction. The 2.5 is the cleanest thru the heads.

I have gotten a few games in with mine on a few different conditions and it is extremely angular. The cover is very clean through the heads. I have a second one on the way. My current is drilled very condition specific to some extant.(6.25" Pin to pap) Still I have noticed that the cover would be perfect for making surface adjustments to cover a wide variety of conditions. I have no doubt this ball could mark a great bench mark ball.

ditto to what most are saying. The wicked has great backend but with the added benefit of good read in the mids. Mine was VERY strong on the back first night out with it (50x4x65)...a little bit too strong. Since then, the reaction has evened out. Like someone has already mentioned, the cover is very tweakable. This ball at 4k or 2k is very useable on a large variety of patterns. Definitley my first ball out of the bag....I ball up or down from the Wicked. With a $50 rebate this has gotta be one of, if not the, best ball on the market for the price.

my wicked is a pin up 5 x 5. this layout @ 4000 abralon gives effortless length with a long midlane & strong arc.

great ball to move in on a pattern with control. my wild thing, drilled 4 1/2" pin up with same layout is earlier roll w/ strong arc in comparison. i also have the same layout on a wild ride t.e. by far a dryer lane or short pattern ball due to the low diff. core. your wild thing may not be on enough volume with that surface. try raising the grit or use polish or both. because i've been using mine over a year, & do not plan on retiring it anytime soon. the way i have my 4.5 set up is a step down from the wild, wicked,  my 2.5(reads earlier than the wicked  w/ strong continuation)

Thanks for everyone who has replied- this has helped me a great sum.

First- to clarify; my WT rolls better with carry down because the massive over/under on the fresh goes away. I dropped the surface to help out on fresh, but have found so far that this helps handle the longer volume of oil when I need something strong yet consistent. Sorry for any confusion.

Second- I am usually afraid to drill Brunswick balls weak- they really seem to under perform for me. I believe the W.S will be drilled something like 4 x 2 or so, pin over grip. I'm looking for something to have the same shape and strength as my old RotoGrip Oracle (polished).

I'll post a review here in a few days- the snow storm really messed up my schedule, so things got pushed back a bit.
