I've been trying to use my versmax for the first game on the fresh. House shot 41ft. Games 2 & 3 are easy as I jump left and open up the lane with a more aggressive asymetrical ball. I've been trying to play the oil line 11 out to maybe 8 but seem so be very squirty if I move inside 2-8-10 and over reactive if I moved right. Has anyone had success knocking off the shine putting surface on the versamax.

I had the same issue with my Taboo Jet Black, hit it with a 4000 and it is money, I then drop down to my Versamax at OBB when the Taboo start a bit too early....I would imagine knocking the polish off will help do the trick.....

Yes i have....at one of my league houses my normal starting ball is too strong and burns up, but the Versa at box was very over/under since the house is very wet/dry. I took the surface down to 4k and it was better. Tried 3k and its great, I just can't stay with it as long now.

YOU COULD GO DOWN TO 1000 AND DO LIGHT POLISH IT WILL GIVE U GRIT AND LENGTH

Saw Walter Ray with his Versa Max dull at one of the Senior Pro events he DOMINATED.!
He coupled the dull Versa with the Box looking Nexxus and it literally looked like no contest! Wish I knew the grit..

Lucky,
If we could throw the ball like Walter, we wouldn't be here on BR. :P

The Versa Max takes surface changes very well. 2 of mine have some surface on them. I would start with 4000 then if that is not enough then 2000. I don't think you will need to go lower than that though.

Thanks too all. will be trying the versamax with a little surface tonight

I keep my pin under versa-max at 2000 surface to smooth out the reaction a little and help to read the oil better. It has worked better with the surface in my experience.

The first time I threw my Versa-Max in NIB surface, I was really impressed with it's back-end move. Then the next 2-3 times, it didn't move as well, so I re-sanded it to 500 grit Abralon, polished with Brunswick Ruff Buff, but didn't polish out all of the sanding lines, and I finished it off with Brunswick Factory Gloss Polish, and the ball has now become a monster every time I have thrown it now. Great move and great pin mix/carry on the back end with great energy when it hits the pocket. Although I can't bowl a much as I like for health reasons and shortly I will be out of bowling for at least 2 months, when I do bowl, this ball has become the first ball out of my bag. Currently seems to work on a variety conditions.

100% take the polish off. I bowl on old wood lanes, when I first got mine it was some over/under and then I took the polish off and it is much better. Picks up the mid lane and has good continuation through the pin deck.

Wel I tried it at 4000 a few weeks back, a little better. Tried it in game 2 last night on our new heavier volume Kegel oil with 2000 for 300.

Congrats on the 300 game.
