In my opinion you should go pin above the fingers, and between 4-5" from PAP with the MB between 45 & 60 degrees. I shy away from bizarre (conditional)layouts for most bowlers.
The ball is very versatile, and should handle a variety of conditions assuming the bowler can find SOME friction. My problem is that I'm tempted to try it on everything because I can play outside or inside with it depending on lane conditions.
It's not just a marketing thing when I say it's unique in how it reads the back part of the lane. It seems to "grip" the lane surface and hold on through the pin deck.
Most pearls hate carry-down. This one handles it nicely. Some pearls are difficult to predict (especially late) while this one inspires confidence from the bowler because of it's strong, predictable move. Although I've kept mine at the 4000 grit finish, I understand that it's easily adjusted with good results, too.
When used on the right part of the lane this ball has hidden many a mistake by this bowler. I hope this helps.
