Any opinions on the Twisted Fury Solid??
« on: October 20, 2009, 02:52:51 PM »
I picked up one NIB for 30$.  I put a 60* 5.5" 65* layout on it and kept it OOB to use when my Virtual Gravity became too much.  I used it close towards the end of my league typically when the VG is just too much, which is about the 4th frame of the last game.

I stood with it around the 30 board, targeting 20 and kept my BP around 5-7.  What I didn't expect was the ball to skid to high hell and not return.  So, I moved 10 boards right, targeted 10 and kept my BP at 5-7.  It was then I got to see the ball move.  This is my first Fury ball and honestly expected more of a move like I see in my VG, VE, and even BWS.

If it helps, I guess I'm still a cranker, with a typical ball speed of 17.5(though Quibica isn't good to base speed off of).  I don't know my exact degree of tilt or rotation, but it's definitely there.  Also, the layouts on my VG, VE, and BWS are very similar.

That ball to me seem's to be alot tamer then it was advertised to be. Everyone I see with it has pretty much the same kind of experience with it, some love it and other can't stand it.

It''s been said many times here that pin positions for the entire Twisted Fury series should be kept fairly strong because the RG differential is relatively weak (.036"), compared to many of today''s balls (.050" range). Your and your driller''s mistake, in my opinion, was probably placing the pin 5.5" away from the axis. Even as a cranker that would result in relatively little flare on this ball.

I have both a TF pearl, the original and the solid. Both are drilled with the pin at 4.5" from my axis and both get excellent reactions. No, they don''t cover 45 boards, but they get lots of pin action and are very reliable and consistent. I would never call them control balls either.

* Both also have a fairly strong mass bias strength. So you have to be very careful about placing the MB with respect to your PAP, ball speed, rev rate, tilt and rotation.

* I also wonder if, at 1000 grit, your TFS''s stock surface was too rough to make the turn on what were drying lanes. It might have been burning up, using up its energy in the midlane. Maybe it just needed slightly less surface or a slight amount of polish. I''ve taken mine up to P3000 grit matte because I don''t see enough oil to use it at its stock surface.

I agree with charlest, and the surface was the thing that stood out in my mind a bit, too. I could not get mine to do much at all when it was at the dull factory finish.

I can really get stuck into mine and not worry about overhook a lot, bet i couldnt do that with a Gravity, Jigsaw or Mutant cell(yes they''re out and about over here!!) with the same layout(pin 5 1/2 from pap mb 3 from pap and box finish). Loves the 44ft pattern im bowling on in my singles leauge atm. Ive gotta get way left with it still but no nasty hockey stick move at the spot.

It does sound like a mistake on my part.  I did try to keep it along the same lines as my top end equipment.  I still may even have a place for it, as my Kinetic Energy, though it still rolls well, is starting to truly show its wear and tear.

I'm not sure if it was burning up, as my VE at 1000 was still turning the corner hard from as deep as 35.  But definite thanks for the insight.  Like I said this is my first Fury so I'll probably put it at 4000 and start with a tighter line.  If I still can't get it to work after a while, it'll be a good test ball.

Tried it again in league last night.  Yep definitely very bad choice in layout for what I wanted it to do.

However, I do have a different use for it.  I put it at 4000 and polish and I was able to play as far right as 10 with it-I can't do that with any other ball.  This thing goes extremely long and has the softest turn into the pocket. 180-211-255.  I'm happy with that.
