Can someone explain this?
« on: February 16, 2005, 12:38:12 AM »
I'm a bit confused here. Brunswick has manufactured 6 different Inferno balls.
Original, Blazing, ultimate, raging, intense, and absolute. Now, what is the purpose of all these balls? One could easily make an arsenal out of about three of them. For example....Blazing for med-dry, original for medium-heavy, ultimate for the heavy stuff. Why does brunswick continue to keep building on the inferno line..it seems as though many of these would overlap on one another. I can see why they would do it from a money standpoint. The line is very popular, and people are going to run out and buy the newest stuff, but why would a bowler want these? Just curious...

P.S. This is in no way a knock on Brunswick or any bowler who throws Brunswick.

Most if not all have different coverstocks, and react differently.

Its not like its the same core in all of them and the same coverstock.  The UI, OI, AI are the only ones that use the same core i beleive.

All of those balls will give differnt looks, but 3 would suit any just fine.  the blazing is also discontinued.

Why? Because "there's one born every minute"

No really, it just depends on the bowler's feelings about equipment, their available cash, their sensitivity to different ball reactions, among other things I'm sure.
For instance, some people think there's a big difference in two balls if one hooks a foot farther down the lane and two boards more than the other one. Personally, I don't think that's enough of a noticeable difference to care, but others would disagree. And if two balls within the same line have that small of a difference (OI vs. AI perhaps?) and yet the bowler thinks that's a big deal and has cash to spend, then they'll probably buy them both.
Anyway, I'm probably not the best to answer this question apart from the answers I've already given because I'm not one of those bowlers. For instance, I only have TWO of the Inferno line and no desire to buy another one unless it was beyond dirt cheap.

I think what is most surprising here is that 4 of the 6 are pearl resins.

Heavy--UI
then Raging
then OI
then AI
then II
the BI

We all know what a flop the BI was, some liked b/c it didn't hook much(I would love to try on of the hard ones), some hated it b/c it didn't hook.  The II was the fix to that problem.  In my mind and initial impression of the AI, the AI is a replacement for the OI.  If I would have kept my OI instead of selling it, knowing I was going to by the AI, I would have a better comparison.

The Raging seems good, but I think if I wanted a particle from bwick right now, it would be the Warp Zone.

You could make an arsenal out of three, some like particle, some don't.  Some like low rg, some don't.  I see 5 very different balls in the line-up, the AI and OI being the only two similar.
