Cant decide on balls
« on: August 30, 2006, 06:11:14 AM »
O.K. So here is my dilemma…

I need a spare ball. I can’t decide between a Swirl Viz-A-Ball and a Power Groove Reactive. Now I know the power groove isn’t exactly a spare ball but on heavy oil (the majority of times when I would need a spare ball its heavy oil as I am much better in light) it shouldn’t really move if I throw it properly. I could also always use it as a strike ball on light oil.

If you were deciding between these two balls to use a more of a spare ball what would you pick?

the swirl is absolutely amazing looking going down the lane if drilled right, my vote is on that one

The swirl looks stupid going down the lane if it isn't drilled right so make sure to get it all hooked up right.

Plastic ball definitely and a Pound lighter. Any Target Zone works and Cheaper at the pro shop coz you get a deal on drilling.

That is one ball you can get a better deal on at pro shop as someone else mentioned.  I use 15 lb stuff but got a target zone 14 lb drilled new from local pro shop for $59.00 including drilling.

For a spare ball you want something that won't move even if back ends are dry.

Also if lanes are really dry you can use this as first ball, and keep it in play, leaving yourself easy spares.

I use the Power Groove Dry R because I can use it for a strike ball at one house I bowl in and for ten pins in that house and the other house in bowl in that is lots oilier.Kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

personally i still use my strike ball to pick up spares. for the ten pin, i take my ring finger out and throw it. i usually stand against the ball return and throw around the center arrow. by taking your ring finger out, it takes some of the hook out of the ball and it holds the line. i also do the same with the 6 pin, only i stand 5 boards to the right and throw around the same spot.(i had told this to a couple of people and they could not do it) itdoes feel like you are going to drop the ball the first few time you throw it, but once you get used to it it works well. might not work for you, but when you practice, give it a try and see what happens. you never know until you try it a few times.

You might try an oob or polished urethane power groove.
