Um...my friends Total isn't that great....insight needed.
« on: March 11, 2007, 11:39:36 AM »
The title says the problem.  My friend recently bought and drilled up a Total Inferno.  He's a med-high rev guy, low track, and put one of his favorite layouts on the ball, pin above bridge, cg @ 30-40 deg. no x-hole.  He has alot of success with his pin down oob Vapor Zone, and oob Red Zone with the same layout as his total.  I had never seen this ball roll in person yet so i was confused too.  Threw the ball on our fresh league shot, and the ball kinda rolled all the way through the pins, no noticeable hook spot.  When the ball came through the ball return it was covered in oil.  Next shot, flew right down the lane barely hooked at all.  He's got the ball oob finish and i didn't know what to tell him. I figured it couldn't hurt, any ideas?

I have been a big inferno fan in the past but these newer ones (radical, total) look crappy to me.... just don't like the way they roll.

OK, some realy world help... what does he have the surface at? Is it polished? Bring it down starting at 4000grait, 2000 grit, 1000g, and finally down to 500 to see if he gets anything like the desired reaction....

Possibly needs to adjust the surface. If it never hooked, then it never encountered enough friction. If your friend tracks quite low, then have him shine the ball just a little more, and move outside on the lane.

Low track players are more subject to seeing the ball skid through the breakpoint on wet lanes, so having him play a drier part of the lane should help dramatically. A higher shine will help if he's on the dry boards in the "carry" department.

My total never hooked. Well infact it does hook just not for the line I intended it for. My total is 1000 grit sheen polished and works awesome playing 20-5.
