Inferno Redrill *options*
« on: July 17, 2006, 05:53:59 PM »
Looking into redrilling my OI, not sure what i want it to do. Something like a "benchmark" ball.

Currently drilled Pin over ring finger, with the CG swung out and a crater hole to make it legal. Ball had a high top weight, and long pin.

Specs are in profile, i think my PAP has changed, i seem to be spinning the ball a bit more. Med-low track player, med speed, med revs, theres some video in my profile as well.

I dont want it to skid/flip. Would like this ball to flip more than my other equipment but still have a smooth roll. If that is even possible. *shrugs*

Two balls i'm throwing that i currently like... AI pin above bridge, small weight hole to reduce side weight. VZ pin below bridge no x hole, PSA in strong position say 35*. Both balls have different surface preps and give me nice looks.

If you are medium to low track then pin over the ring is probably somewhere around 4 inches for you.  Try plugging the ball, leave the pin over the ring but stack the cg.  I would recommend lowering the pin, but since you said it is long, that may not be an option.  I have a Rico'd Inferno and it is smooth as butter.

First of all you should get your pap remeasured.  I would then give a try to a closer pin to pap.  I have an Ambush that has a 2 1/2" pin to pap with pin above mid of 2 1/2" that checks up very early and is pretty even.  With the OI, being a pearl, this layout should smooth out the breakpoint, yet the pearl characteristic snap should still hold true.  Another option like Jason Kovack mentioned is to lower the pin.  By drilling the thumb deeper and perhaps putting an x hole in the thumb quadrant you could keep it legal, check with your pro before doing something of this nature.
