Dan, if you are really looking for something on dry I'd go with the red/teal. If you want something for dry with a sharp recovery I'd goto the Purple/Silver, but I wouldn't mess with the Chrome/Silver unless you're looking at a medium-light condition and you need alot of reaction in the backend.
In a thread with Charlest in it I knew I should have been more specific but I didn't want to overload since I only had a few minutes to type that last post. But let me elaborate.
I know a guy with all three, fairly accomplished YABA Bowler, lots of youth titles, 220 travel average...yadda yadda...right handed power player, about 18mph out of the hand, in the low 400s on RPMS I would guess. To compare styles with someone everybody might know, think of a ball roll similar to B. Angelo but a higher speed out of the hand. He has the whole powergroove series which he can't stop throwing. He has the Chrome/Silver and Red/Teal drilled like this(*- Pin, c- CG, x- weighthole)
---0-0---
---*-----
---------
-----c---
----0----
-------X-
The Purple Silver is layed out like this
---0-0---
----*----
----c----
---------
----0----
The Chrome/Silver reacts to dry the quickest and has the most pronounced flip. He is using this for his benchmark skid flip piece since the Infernos are a bit too strong, too early. He can really open up a fresh shot with this ball since the backend is so angular and chase the line inside as the shot breaks down.
The Purple/Silver is a step down from it though. It's a few feet longer(still very sharp out of the dry), but when thrown on the same line, the Chrome/Silver could be a flush strike while the Purple/Silver is a weak bucket or two-pin.
The Red/Teal is noticably the weakest, even with the same drill as the Chrome/Silver. When he is forced to go up the boards this is when this is the ball of choice. It really needs alot more dry to react than either of the two other grooves. He uses this as a spareball or if the lanes are completely burnt in the track and he's playing the outside. From inside, in his comfort zone, this ball just doesn't turn the corner like the Chrome/Silver, and goes even longer than the Purple/Silver Groove.
I know N_Smith has used all of the grooves, he might be able to share his experience too. I've only thrown a Proactive Groove myself.
