What Big B balls to use at Nats...
« on: April 04, 2008, 04:49:34 AM »
What did Billy O use? I heard they are juiced up in team.

Some friends that went used Twisteds, Vapor, and Ultras.

Just curious guys.

Before you read this be ready for anything at the USBC Open. It all seems to be what pair you catch and what squad you bowl but this is what happened on our trip. I have also heard of different stories about how tight the lanes were to how much they hooked.

The main balls I used were a Fury Pearl and Solid Fury.

For Team Event we wanted to open up the lanes and create a hook spot. All 4 Right Hander's had aggressive balls with 1000 abralon finish on them and we played up 8,9,10. The team we crossed with was a classified team but they were playing inside of second arrow. The first game started out with good backends and the shot wasn't to difficult to get to the pocket. The second game the oil carried down a little bit with the heads starting to hook. When we tried to move inside the ball went pretty straight. The 3rd game the heads hooked and the backends were tight. We tried using shiny balls but they went even longer with less reaction. We never got deeper than 11-12. It seemed like the pair was oiled with Vaseline and other pairs around us were fine using semi shiny stuff. Our lefty Mark Moore used a 500 abralon Vapor Zone and Fury and couldn't hook it. We shot 3087 and were very happy with the score but not the condition. The next day I watched the pair and it hooked for the teams that bowled on it. I used a Fury (1000 Abralon - 5 1/2 pin with a hole down my VAL) and Fury Pearl (4000 Abralon - 5 1/2 pin with a hole down my VAL)

S&D's was a different story bc there was a little hook in the Track. Started with the Solid Fury in Doubles playing 13 - 8 making small moves as the lane broke down every other shot.... Switched to the Pearl Fury in Singles and played the same way.

Carry was tough and hard to stay lined up because of the shot moving in S&D's only.

Try to stay more direct like playing old fall back style. We could not get any balls to recover for strikes on backend.

The Roto Grip Challenge uses the same shot as the USBC Championships only 2 ft shorter. Play way out up 4,5,6 early and the Track later in the day.

The BJ's also uses the same shot as the USBC Championships only 2 ft longer. We bowled pretty good playing in the track but really straight using the same balls as the Open.
