Comparing Purple Rhino Pro to Lane 1 Chainsaw

I was looking into purchasing a Lane 1 Chainsaw, and was enticed by the video on Buddies website.  However, when I saw the price I was a little turned off so I went searching for something cheaper.  Not bashing at all, I just thought a ball made for lighter oil situations would be closer to $100 than $200.

I turned to the Purple Rhino Pro remake.  

The site says it has a low RG and .015 differential with a 2 piece core.

The Chainsaw was .013 with a modified 2 piece.

Just looking at the covers they look to be close to the same.

Would these be pretty close in performance?  I have been in the market for something that reacts close to Urethane with a little more hitting power.

I was able to pick up the Rhino for less than $50 shipped, so I hope this will work for me.

Also is there a drilling that could help get the desired reaction I am looking for?  This ball has about a 4" pin and 2.5 oz of tw.  I am a lefty with average revs and ball speed.  Maybe a drilling that would place the pin over my middle finger would smooth it out?

My opinion (no offense intended):
The price of a ball is not related to whether it handles heavy oil or light oil. That is a prejudice we carry with us from manufacturer's use of old balls (and now can be cheaply made) to handle lighter oils.

(Honestly)
How can you look at a coverstock and tell it resin/chemical composition?
How do they "look" the same or close?

It should. It was Brunswick's first resin ball, as far as I have learned. It's low RG differential will produce almost no flare. It's cover should not be as strong as most of today's. It shoudl retail for that $50, but overall associative costs have gone up from the mid 1990s.

Sounds reasonable. But I doubt if that ball needs "smoothing out". That drill should make it even milder than a "normal" or "average" drill.

I would also suggest the Visionary Blue/Green Centaur. It is one of the, if not the most even reacting resin balls EVER made, as near as I can tell. I have used it polished and at 1000, 2000 and 4000 grit Abralon. Its carry power is far in excess of expectations.

Charlest, thanks for the response.

What I meant by their covers looking close was that they're both polished and smooth looking solids.  

If the Chainsaw would work for me I'd have no problem paying that price for it because if it works, it will pay for itself.  The only problem is I don't have the extra money so I am working on a budget and $50 looks a lot better than $160

I will be anxious to see how the Rhino rolls.  If it allows me to go straighter like I used to, I will be extremely happy.  I think you are correct about the drilling.  I am guessing I should put the pin closer to my PAP as the coverstock will already be weak enough for what I want.

Any other suggestions welcomed, and again Charlest thank you for the response!

The real question is how do you roll the ball. I have mine drilled pretty odd for a ball of that time. I have a post if you look through where I talked about the drilling and the ball in general. I find this ball to be strong when it finds dry OOB for me. I just need to put it out to a dry spot and it will make it back. I play very deep throwing about 14 to 15mph playing gutter to gutter on medium and it turns with so much energy that I have trouble keeping it from hitting too hard.

I am your typical lefty.  A little more speed than revs.  Most comfortable playing as straight as possible from 5-10 depending on ball reaction.

I am a high tracker, but not sure what my PAP is.  I always score better with smooth and even equipment.

haha I just took a look at the ball and it says Blunswick on it.  Oh I hope this ball rolls well for me, so I can tell everyone I throw a Blunswick lol.

In my opinion, I just got a new Chainsaw for Christmas, and it's probably the best 150$ Santa has given to me.

My Chainsaw was laid out 6 1/2" pin to PAP, CG kicked left, for negative side weight.

The way it's laid out forces me to play super straight. The ball goes really long, but doesn't ever flip in the back. It just makes a little arc, enough to demolish the pins. Make sure you're playing in the driest part of the lane to get the best hit possible, also!

Anymore questions, feel free to ask! I'm sure a Blunswick Rhino will also be good, though.

Brian, appreciate the response.  I just sold about 12 pieces on eBay and was highly considering taking some of that money and putting it on the Chainsaw, but like I said, less than $50 shipped was looking better to me.

I looked at the picture of your ball, I think there is a problem.  The middle finger is much lower than the ring finger.  I think you should take it back .

Now I realize you are right handed.  I couldn't tell by looking at your picture of the Chainsaw because I am not at all familiar with the Sarge Easter Grip.  Perhaps you are correct and the Blunswick vapors are messing with my head

With the core being so short and not containing any sort of flip block. The static weights of these balls play a huge roll in reaction.

FASTtracker actually bowled a Ball Review Day and tried this ball that was actually drilled for LEFTY testers and he loved the reaction.

I have actually drilled (4) Chainsaws with this negative CG shift after people have thrown them.
