controlling reaction
« on: March 01, 2004, 04:48:48 PM »
I am an intermediate bowler, with about 180 average.  I am trying to get some info on how to make my ball's reaction more controllable.  I use a 15lb Power Groove Review.  I'm not sure about the exact drilling pattern, but it has a very aggressive hook.  Here's my problem, when the lane is med - heavy oil, I have no problem throwing, and getting a good consistent reaction, but when I bowl on a dry lane.  I have trouble keeping the ball on the lane all together.  I bowl like I'm trying to pick up the 10 pin and I land it between the 2 and the 4 almost every time.  Is there a way to get a more consistent reaction out of my ball on dry lanes, or do i need to get a second ball with a less aggressive drilling pattern for dry conditions?  I bowl pretty high rev and my speed is about 12-13 mph.  I think I can bring my average well into the 200's if I can bowl consistently in dry conditions.

Thanks
Jamie

Oh we have another cranker, ok, well, its not that you need a weaker drill, but, a weaker ball. There are heavy oil balls, medium oil balls, and light oil balls, your ball is best on medium, so when you throw it on dry its really strong. You could get another medium oil ball, and drill it weak, or, if you get a dry lane ball, and drill it strong you can get a nice sharp backend on it. Some examples of dry lane balls are the Lane 1 XXXL, XXL, XL, those are all dry lane ones, the Brunswick Monster SlayR is one. Just a few.

AM not A CHICK OF BOWLING but I wanted to be in Manda's clique And why would I "saw" pins in half, THATS A WASTE OF PINS! I'd rather blow it over with my storm, and 21mph ball speed on dry shots.

If you're high rev and 12-13 MPH, you need to learn 2 things.  Get more speed on the ball and reduce your rev rate.  Stand back further on the lane, hold the ball higher in your stance, free up your armswing, and don't cup your wrist.  In the mean time, you should consider a plastic ball.  A Lane#1 XXXL would be good.

Read Ron's tips.  His newest one is for dry lanes.
