Has anyone sanded down their Massive Damage to see how much oil it can take? I continue to believe this was one of the most underrated balls that came out last year from any company. With my slower ball speed and the lane conditions I typically see it's a rare day that this ball is not perfectly suited for me at it's OOB surface. But I'm wondering if people have tested the ball on heavier oil conditions and how well the surface took to adjustments.

I have not with the Massive Damage, however, I often used my Anaconda (same cover) at around 2000 with good results as long as there was reasonable volume. Not a heavy oil ball by any means, but I could definitely play deeper on fresh house shots with it. It just picked up the mid-lane earlier, and smoothed out the late movement to where it resembled a strong arc-shape reaction.

Similar here. When I had a S&A I also played with the surface, adding polish and sanding it to various grits. With an open surface the ball would read the lane much earlier - not a true oil ball, but it would handle slightly more oil and esp. longer medium conditions well. It would not hook much more, but earlier and more even - and I found that the cover's response to preparation changes was VERY strong, I have never encountered such a dramatic effect of surface changes on any other material till then and now.

I keep my Massive Damage at 1k. I found it to be too angular at box finish and it was able to fill in more of that benchmark reaction for me once I sanded it down. I agree with the previous comments that yes it does increase its strength with more surface, but it will still give you enough backend to get reasonably deep and maintain carry through the pins. I would say that even at 1k it is by no means a heavy oil ball and still not enough teeth downlane for when oily lanes carry down. This is my ball for getting left of everybody on medium oil.

Not bought one yet, buy have many bowling balls with the Activator+ pearl covers and love the reaction I get. Hands down one of the best covers out there. Very versatile.

Thanks everyone for the responses. My best surface for a benchmark ball is 1000 grit paper plus light polish. I think I'll try this for the Massive Damage next. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who loves this ball!
