Ultra Zone feedback anyone?
« on: May 04, 2008, 10:40:18 PM »
For all those who have one and thrown it a set or two, what do you think of it? What is it comparable to?

Any feedback, negative or positive, is appreciated!

Thanks,
chrispy

Thrown mine for a few months now, and frankly, it's a GREAT ball. Fits between the Blast Zone and the Twisted. Better length than the Blast, but earlier and a bigger move than the Twisted.

On house shots I can't imagine a better or more versatile ball. Just feed it out towards the dry and let it finish strong, not flippy, just a hard arc shape. That's when I see my best carry.

It's also good on straighter lines, but I tend to leave a few more 10 pins than when I swing it out a little.

I got my Ultra Zone about a month ago, and I absolutely love it. I've only been on the Brunswick bandwagon for a year or so, so I can't really compare it to another Brunswick piece, but for me, the Ultra is very comparable to Columbia's Power Drive Pearl. One could also argue it's close to Storm's Thunderstruck Pearl, although the Ultra is more rolly than the Thunderstruck.

It reads the midlanes unbelievably, but hitting power is definitely not sacrificed. My particular Ultra has a 2-inch pin with the pin under the bridge and the CG slightly kicked. I'm a high-rev, high-speed player (450ish RPM, 19ish MPH), but even so, this ball will start up in the midlanes and finish strong. For me, I can't get deep and open the lanes with this ball (obviously), but if I want to play the track area or even a little right of it, the Ultra is the first ball out of the bag.

As far as carry is concerned, as long as you're far enough right (or left for you southpaws) with it, you'll kick the corners out all day. However, if you're too deep, you'll leave marshmallow corners all day long. If the lanes make the ball want to go too long, you'll ring corners all day if you're too firm with the speed. From my experiences anyway, the Ultra is highly speed sensitive when the lanes are tight, but if you have any friction towards the gutter, you'll be styling.

Hope this helps!

I have about 30 games on mine now and use it as my benchmark ball. It is usually the first ball out of my bag on fresh conditions. I am more of a straighter player and can play that line with the UZ on most THS conditions until the line dries up. I can then go either to my Twisted or Radical Inferno. The UZ will skate a little on synthetic carrydown conditions. I can then get my Red Zone out and play the track area. I have my Ultra drilled stacked leverage. I am thinking about getting another one and drill it with the pin down to use when there is a bit more oil. I think this ball is a bit stronger than the Vapor Zone or Absolute Inferno.

I've got one drilled up and it rolls pretty nice.  I feel like mine is speed sensitive and I get too much of an over/under reaction when I try to play straighter down the track area.  When I move into around 4th arrow and slowloop it, it has a more predictable roll and creates more area.  I have seen a few people throw it and get the total opposite reaction than I get, but it has more to do with my layout and game than anything.

Mine is drilled like this with the pin on the negative:

---o-o---
---P-----
----cg---
----O----
------mb-

Ive had mine alot and bowl mostly on sport and pba patterns and the ball rolls great. I have it pin up 5 1/4 from my pap, mb just right of thumb. its good on fresh for me becuase even though the drilling and having it polished it doesnt make a sudden change of direction. it really reads the midlane just like my twisted did as well.

not,
how is it drilled and what style would you consider yourself?

**********************************************************************

Mine is 3 3/4 from PAP below fingers, MB at 45*, balance hole. I'm probably considered a tweener. Usually 16 mph with decent revs, but don't know a number. I drilled it strong because of the enmotion cover of the Twisted was so clean through the heads and I wanted it to be smooth at the break point. Hope this answers your question.

So what are you waiting for, an invitation? Tell your driller and I'll bet he suggests that you let him add a weight hole.

Either that or scuff up the surface slightly with a green pad.

I have one drilled 3x3/8 by 3x3/8,surface is 1000 then polished. Very strong benchmark ball, or ill pull it out when my gravity shift jumps to much, the ultra is very smooth no over or under that ive seen so far

Honestly, im not sure if Im gonna get one or not right now...
Next year Ill be at Morehead State University, and im sure they can supply me with one...
I was just seeing if it was comparable to other balls out there or if it was a outstandin ball that would be worth buying right now...

I was hoping a somewhat controllable Twisted Fury...

That sounds good to me. Much easier to predict, yet still strong on the back end. Get one now AND later...
