how to restore my AI's hook and snap?
« on: February 24, 2006, 05:30:06 PM »
I have my AI almost a year. Now it's losing it skid and snap action. I am stroker, 12mph speed. low rev. cuz my AI is 15lbs, and I am weak to rev it alot.

If i try to throw faster, it just skid to the 6&10 pin, no snap arc back to the pocket. Now i only can throw slowly at the 15 board to make it hit the pocket. I used to play at 25 board. I heard oil sink into the ball make it hook less. if true, how to take out the oil soak inside?

Should I resurface the ball? sand to what grit? polish or buff?

thanks alot

try extracting the oil before you try to change anything about the surface condition

Hey, from my experiance Brunswick reccomends heat. Try hot tap water and a little dawn in a bucket or set it out in the sun for a bit in a trash bag. The have it ressurfaced back to factory finish which is 220grit followed by rough buff polish I believe. You can check Brunswicks website also.

ebonite hook again kit works really good i used it on my buddies
OI that was completely dead left it in chamber for 24 hours cleaned it returned it to original factory settings and it is a brand new ball.  Havent done on any of mine yet cause i dont keep a ball long enough to get oil soaked LOL

if you want your absolute inferno to return to it's like new condition do what brunswicks recommends:

1) have the oil extracted from the ball with a rejuvenator or revivor machine.

2) have the ball resurfaced with a haus-type machine.

3) the ball's final sanding grit should be 220

4) have a coat of brunswicks rough buff compound applied.

The best way is to soak it, or use a rejuvenator.  My preferred method is the soaking, because you can just put the ball in there and forget about it for a while, you don't have to babysit it.

No, thats not a good idea.. then the surface of the ball will be yucky...lol... Its good to bake it.. so all/most of oil out..., Then Resurface the ball, and ruffbuff it...  if you cook the ball after resurfacing.. you will be bringing the oil near to the surface of the ball, making the ball less spongy so it wont grip the lane as well..

I have tried everything including the hot tap water method, and resurfacing th ball...  the two best I have found---

DishWasher -  regular dishwashing detergent is a great degreaser, and its easier than the hot tap water, just make sure you turn off the dry cycle..

Ebonite's Hook again - I was really surprised how much this worked..  just leave it overnight, and vacuum up the hook again stuff when you are done, also very easy to use.
