Need a ball to compliment my Smokin
« on: February 19, 2006, 12:44:26 PM »
Hi folks,

I have a Smokin drilled lable 2L and really am enjoying the balls reaction and carry.  However, on longer patterns and when there is a lot of carry down, this ball isnt working well for me.  I would prefer to keep this ball in box condition and add soemthing else to compliment it from the B line.

Option 1: I have a used OI in great shape with the pin just right of the ring finger and the cg just below it.  I could get away with just plugging and moving the thumb to fit my span, but Im not sure that alone will give me a ball that is stronger and can handle more oil and carry down.  If needed I could just plug the whole ball and start from scratch.  If thats the case what kind of drilling and what surface would you leave on the ball?(ive never used the OI so not sure how it compares to the SI).

Option 2:  To pick up a new Scorchin.  Again if I do this what drilling would you recommend to compliment a Smokin drilled 2L.  Should I drill it 2l also and let the balls differnces be enough, or should I have it drilled to roll earlier with a smoother arc?

Thanks for your time,

JD

My Scorchin' is pretty close to 1L, and it's great in carrydown. My Smokin' is a great compliment to it. My suggestion would be a Scorchin', let OOB. It's a beast.

Scorchin needs LOTS of oil in box condition to not burn up!

How does the OI compare to the Smokin then?  I would like to put that ball to use but dont want them to compete for similar lane conditions.

Between the corching and Smoking is a large void.

An absolute Inferno may suit you better than a serious heavy oil ball

Also the new Action packed by columbia300 is seriously one awsome ball.

Absolute Inferno
Action Packed

I throw both brunswick and Columbia equipment, because they are the two companies that put out the best quality long lasting balls.

Ebonite is crap and Storm is really dropping off the chart.

Arsenal:

EPX-T1 - Heavy oil
Action- Heavy to Medium oil
Original Inferno - Medium oil
Smoking Inferno - Medium to Dry
Blue Dot - Spare ball

My fault. I was tired when I first read this. I would defintely say an Absolute or possibly a Nemesis to fill the void. I thought you just wanted a good heavy ball, not something in between. An Absolute is very versitile on different conditions to me, that may be the ticket.

Thanks for your replies  If money was no object I would definitely pick up an AI/Nemesis and a Scorchin, and in the long run I will probably do just that.  However, as I have an OI unused I was going to try to tweak that first.

If i get the OI dilled strong with the pin right or below ring, and adjusted the finish by either sanding it or using ruff buff, do you think I would end up with a reaction that would handle more oil and carry down better than the SI?  I guess basically tweaking the ball to try to mimick the AI or UI.  Im sure others have tried this, just looking to see how effective it was for you.
