Dead ball reaction
« on: May 08, 2008, 08:48:11 AM »
Vapor Zone 4.5" pin to pap, 90 deg mass bias.  This ball has hundreds of games on it, is tracked up and oil soaked but has the smoothest reaction of anything I own.   It doesn't snap off the dry if I miss a little right and gives me lots of hold when miss left.  It is about 5 to 7 boards left with my feet stronger than my plastic ball if I hook it.

Is there any way to duplicate dead ball reaction on a new ball?  What kind of ball, layout, coverstock prep, etc could give me the same reaction?  Any ideas?

On a side note.  Out of curiousity, at what temperature does the coverstock material go liquid for when they pour the ball?

Thanks.

I think you could drill an Avalanche Pearl with pin above the bridge and cg under the ring finder and get what you are looking for.  I also recommend taking the pearl to 4000 polish.

I dont know how LFS gets his reaction on that pearl avalanch but mine has the pin an inch or so above my fingers and talk about a skid/flip MONSTER!!
If you did consider what he said then you may have to take a little polish off it so it wont go crazy off the dry and skid for days when pulled in the oil. I personally hate my avalanch, but taking into consideration, I havent done any surface changes. 2000 Abralon/ no polish may fix mine.

Hey thanks for the replies.  I'm interested in all ideas.  I've been looking at the Avalanches but still on the fence about them, I definitely don't need or want another skid/snap or hook monster

you're getting the whole concept of pouring urethan material wrong. No offense!

the mixture reactes in the mold and once it is hard it can not be melted anymore.

In most of these drilling sheets....brunswick in particular they talk about oil extraction to revive older balls.

They specifically state....if you like the reaction of an old ball on an overreactive shot....don't oil extract it....or the now stronger reaction will lower your scores.

I've seen witness of this.  In a super overreactive poorly oiled house I bowl in we have a guy that has a beat up old TiBoss pearl!  This thing is so beat up it almost looks like a solid.

This guy shot an 837 one night with an had the world to shoot at.  20 to 5, 15 to 13, 22 to 8.  All strikes.

Many a 700 this guy would shoot also!  All of a sudden his Dad gets him a Triple X factor.  465, 510, 535.....485.....back to the TourBoss pearl.

710....well you get the picture.

Keep the Vapor Zone and keep throwin it give thanks you have it....sounds perfect for your house!
