Maxxx Zone question
« on: October 23, 2008, 02:53:21 AM »
Last night in league I was talking to the proshop owner about the maxxx zone. I told him that I was real interested in this ball, and he told me the way I throw the ball that he wouldn't recommend be getting it. I throw the ball about 17 to 18 mph. and with alot of revs. So, if anybody out there with the same speed and revs were to purchase this ball how would you go about drilling it. I bowl on a 39ft.ths. Every ball I have I have drilled to go long and snap. So, what should I do, buy or pass?

Unless you are seeing situations where nothing in your bag hooks enough or picks up early enough, I don't see this working for you unless you put a tame arc drilling on it, maybe RICO it (and take up the grit and/or add rough buff), for a different look than the other stuff in your bag.

A Copperhead drilled strong may be a better and cheaper solution, I don't know you don't tell us your axis tilt or rotation...the answer would be a lot different for someone with your stats who was a full roller, spinner, or in between

The MaxXX Zone is VERY STRONG!!!!  Obviously your pro shop guy has seen you bowl, i'd listen to him.  Just knowing the ball itself, and nothing about your style, it's not a THS ball.  Especially one that is only 39ft.  Now if you were bowling tournaments and such, where you may see more volume, then i'd say go for it.  This ball was designed for HEAVY OIL, hence to 175 of 175 HOOK RATING.

As far as putting a RICO drilling on this, it's a waste.  It only going to make the ball hook earlier and more.  Not more in the back, but more in the front, basically killing the reaction.  RICO drilling is not typically meant for really strong balls.

IMO, pass on this.  Look into the Twisted Fury Destruction instead....

According to Ric Hamlin as they tested this ball it cleared the heads pretty easily (even dull) and then turned left and was very continuous. It is a solid, which will mean it's not snappy on the dry, just strong.

Side by side against the Cell by Roto Grip, they both read the midlane similarly, but the Maxx Zone finished stronger. This may give you something to compare against.

If you're concerned that it will look like another skid/snap ball, don't worry (that would be the Twisted Fury Destruction). I'd buy it and put a more control drilling on it. Maybe 4" from PAP BELOW the fingers, MB at 45 degrees. Then adjust the surface if necessary. For more angularity you can try pin above and maybe 4 1/2 to 5" from PAP, MB at 60 degrees.

When his ball hits the market and people start seeing it sales are going to go NUTS! These 2 new balls are a different look from Brunswick. Mine will be drilled within a day or two, so I'm going by those who've thrown it based on Ric's observations.

If you don't buy one now, you'll be buying one real soon...

I rolled my Maxxx Zone for the first time last night. I drilled it 5 1/4" pin in the middle finger, no hole. Just to see, I thought I would try it with the box finish. I was extremely surprised that it didn't hook early. Especially because I was bowling on a 41' foot house shot in a place that has 6 to 8 year old guardian. I could play from 15-10 at the arrows to wherever striking at will. Super clean, super strong, super good. 'Nuff Said!!!!

Acckkk Wrong.

My Rico Maxxx has easy length with a nice shine on it. I filmed the video the other day, I'll get to the TF Solid and the Maxxx soon!
