Direct Correlation or No?
« on: February 01, 2009, 04:53:43 AM »
Any correlation between how a ball sells and if it's successful on the PBA tour?

The only reason I ask is because I'm watching Carol Dorin-Ballard, Sean Rash and Brad Angelo completely whiff with the WILD RIDE.

BTW, I love mine.

ouch, just like mine, not too impressive, have used it in 2 different houses,
it was box finish, then 2000 albalon, now going to 1000
Maybe should have gone with the rattler, proven coverstock and a core that i love, like my sidewinder and copperhead

I'm also working on adjusting the surface.

Sunday night league the ball is money out of the box.

Tuesday night, different house, more oil, still working it out.

They really made the Wild Ride look horrible on the show.  It barely moved.

I agree the Rattler at least has a proven coverstock going for it.

ok with the wild ride not looking good, not much love for TFD does everyone think that they need to stop coming out with so many balls and focus on technology and not rush it to the market.....!

With the millions of bowlers worldwide, a company has to put out a wide variety of balls to be profitable. Not every ball works for every bowler as I have heard on this site over and over again!

no correlation at all.......chris barnes was pba player of the year last year. the pro shop i visit is the busiest in the metro kandsas city area. the owner told me if anything he sells less columbia 300 this year than last year.

If that's so, then there a lot of people in the KC metro area that are missing out...I just hope they aren't wasting their time and money on Bruswick balls...

according to the owner of ams bowling supplies-----the pro shop i referred to, he receives very few requests for columbia 300 equipment. this is a man who has run a successful shop for over 20 years. he knows what sells and what doesn't. i don't throw columbia 300 and i definitely don't feel like i'm missing out. i've thrown nothing but brunswick since 1995. in 1995 i was averaging 175 and by 2005 i was averaging 233. i've bowled multiple 300 games and 800 series. i've won multiple city championships. i've cashed at pba regional tournaments. all this was done with brunswick equipment. there are many, many other players who have achieved much more than i have using brunswick equipment. bottom line: what wins on sunday doesn't necessarily sell on monday.

if the ball isnt going to move with sean rash throwing it idk what will. maybe it'll move for brunsnick when he shoots the video of the ball on half synthetic half wood lanes, should be enough friction there to get it to turn over

An interesting point is that Harman, when moved to the left lane, same as Rash, had issues with his Hyroad moving enough to create the angle to carry.  I will admit that it moved more than the Wild Ride, but when Sean slowed the ball down, he had similar movement and left two ten pins, just like Harman.  Now, the Hyroad is an awesome ball, but sometimes hook, regardless of hand, is still determined by speed.
Thanks,
Dennis
