Funny, in an earlier post, when I said few people liked the Helix when it was out, out of the woodwork came 20 ballreview inmates who said they loved theirs.

OK, I'll step out on the limb yet again -
Back when both Helixes were new, people who tried both of them preferred the Double Helix by a wide margin. I believe the main reasons were that it hooked more AND it hooked more reliably than the original hooked.

Its forte is clearing dry heads with ease because the first tracks on the ball, if it is drilled properly, will be on the pearlized urethane portion, the red band or the red ring. As the ball flares (and it has a high flare potential), the ball starts to track on the resin portion of the ball's surface. I don't recall offhand what the resin is on this one. I'd suspect PK 17 or PK 18 solid.

The Double hooked a pretty good amount back then. Now I'd guess it should be good for medium-light to as much as medium oil, depending on your rev rate & ball speed. I don't recall the drill options, but for its purpose I don't think there were many.

I just remember it being extremely expensive when it was released, and we laughed at people that had them.  "Why spend that much on a stupid bowling ball?"  They were nothing special.

The idea, was a good one, but overall a bust.

Contrary to alot of other opinions, I loved this ball and used it in tournaments up to two years ago and rolled very well.  You must understand that the ball cannot be used on many lane conditions.

Originally it sold for $300 FIXED. BTV/QUantum brooked no discounts from any pro shop. If they heard of any, you didn't carry BTV any more or something nasty like that. But today is a different story.
