Drilled my OI remake...
« on: February 07, 2007, 03:27:10 AM »
I picked up an OI remake.  Here are the specs:

15lb.
3 inch pin
3.5 oz. top

Drilling:
4" pin to PAP, pin under ring finger
3 1/2" cg to PAP, cg swung out about 30 degrees
X-hole on VAL 2 1/4" below PAP (1", 2.5" deep)

I threw it for the first time last night, and it was great with friction, but it started to get squirty when the lanes transitioned.  Anyone have experience hitting these with abralon?  1000 or 2000?  The ball rolls great when there was friction to get it to check.  It doesn't boom on the backend that much, I wanted it to roll rather than checkmark so I can play straighter.  I'm just wondering if that surface prep will help it much.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

J.J., from what I have seen, the remade OIs have a bit more shine on them than the typical rough buff finish.  Perhaps taking it back to 220 and re-applying the rough buff will eliminate the squirtyness.  Taking it to 1000 or 2000 abralon should give it some more traction, but it may come off the spot a bit stronger than before.

keep using it, let it get to a sheen finish from the polish wearing away.
its money after that point.

I dont know what "grit" its at now, but im not touching it.
It just reacts too good at that surface.
This is the 2nd Original Inferno thats worked like this for me.

I shot 698 with mine sheened this morning

the OI was never finished with rough buff.....the factory finish of the OI is and has always been 400 grit + brunswick high gloss polish

Ah yes, thanks for the reminder.  I'm getting used to RB being the stock finish for Infernos and Zones.  Well, anyway, Rough Buff would certainly eliminate the squirtness, but even a quick hit of a grey scotchbrite would take the shine off.

There are 39 boards on a lane, crossing 38 of them doesn't make you good....it makes you a moron.
