Scorchin from 600 matte finish to dark glossy colour?
« on: March 20, 2006, 03:31:16 AM »
for all SCI owners...i think a while back, someone posted topic regarding their SCI turning into a darker glossy/shiny colour after about a week or so of using it.  when you first buy the ball, it comes in a 600 matte finish.  it's been a month now and i couldn't figure out as to why i could never restore the original finish on this ball.  at first i thought that that ball was really soaking up too much oil.  it tried to clean the oil up and it was still shiny.  needless to say, i wasn't too happy with the reaction i was getting.  i got to the point of sanding it down to bring it back to the original finish (took the polish off the ball).  i used it for league play and after the session, i cleaned it with the brunswick remove all cleaner and sure enough, the ball had a little gloss.  after all this time which i thought was oil or polish on the ball that i couldn't remove, turns out to be the "ball cleaner" that the ball is soaking up.  damn.   is there any cleaner that will leave the "dull"  balls "dull"?

i think i'll give my scorchin a few more chances 'cause after all, it a new ball.  but if it continues to act erratically, maybe i'll have it sanded down to 400 grit.

Wow another interesting post i had to take mine to 1000 and shine it up and it still moves alot. The ball at 600 was just too strong so now it is much more useable.

Did you use ruff buff or factory polish on it? Did you notice any sharper break on the backend with polish??

Ruff buff on spinner high speed with water standing on the ball. Backend picks up quite a bit, it is not a flood ball but stronger than my absolute inferno at 2000 or my vapor zone out of the box.
