Slayr???
« on: February 20, 2004, 02:52:29 AM »
I ordered this ball and havent got it  yet. But, I am looking for a way to drill it. I have a revmaster to start of, but somewhere during the 2nd game its too strong. I start off on medium-light ( crappy lanes, they dry fast). I own a optyx spider, good ball for light, but recently died. I am a low rev bowler with a avg speed of 17 mph. What would be a good way to drill it??

Hey, I am a youth bowler, and I do know quite a bit about bowling specs for my age. Yet, I dont know what the whole 5.5 x 5 thing is. Could someone explain it to me??

The first number is the distance between the pin and your positive axis point (PAP).  The second number is the distance between the CG and PAP.

About all I can add with respect to the SlayR is that someone at Brunswick recommended that I drill it with the pin below the fingers to keep it from going past the breakpoint.  I'm glad I did;  that thing goes dead straight in front.

The ball doesnt read the heads much at all with any kind of oil up front.  You say you dont have many revolutions on your ball and you seem to have about average to slightly above ball speed, so I'd be sure to lay it out rather aggressive.  The cover on this thing is weak, and thats the majority of your ball reaction.  I'd think something like a 4 1/2 pin with the mass swung out at 45 degrees, or a 4 inch pin with the mass at 75 degrees.  Either way the ball is gonna clear the front fine, just depends really on how low your rev rate really is as to which layout to use.

On their site it has layouts. Would 1L be too strong??? (which is 3 3/8 from the pap). It will give me the length with the maxium backend. Also, could someone give me some tips for more revs. I hate being limited to this straight up the gutter shot. I wanna throw a big hook, or atleast be able to throw it out some. Any tips?

Dude, I have drilled a slay/r for a friend of mine.  I would go with a 2L or 3L for meduim conditions.  If you are buying for drier conditions, I would definitely go 4L.  That is a great layout, IMO.

You more revs, keep your wrist firm don't let it break at all in your backswing.  Go luck!

Strong Warning:
If you are a high tracker DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT drill it with the pin under the bridge. Chances are you will thump over the finger holes..

I'm only about 1 & 1/2 from my thumb & 1"  from my fingers for my track & haven't had a problem with my 4X3 under the ring finger drilling.

However it cuts it REALLY close. I've thumped my thumb once so far.
