AFAIK, the RI was very touchy with its OOB finish, and the coverstock was weaker than advertised. Couple this flippy stuff with a rev-happy low RG core, and you get a ball that is very nervous and rather a hit-or-miss. Any player who used one I know either loved or hated it.
It would handle less oil than advertised - with a glossy surface, it was a very good ball for medium to medium-dry lanes and also for later games on broken-up lanes. Not a carrydown ball, but its low RG would help it roll easily on spotty back end areas.
Good thing is that with some surface tuning (normally getting rid of the OOB shine) made the ball more useable and easier to control. 4.000 Abralon made a compleetly different ball out of it for a friend of mine who was also very confused and disappointed with it.
Finally, from my pro shop who also had some troubles with the firt drilled specimens, I got the tip to drill it with a stronger pin position than one normally would. The ball needs some earlier roll to work - drill it for length, and it easily slips through its breakpoint.
Touchy ball. Can be "resurrected", but I would not consider it a "must have" ball, due to its nature by design. No wonder it quickly disappeared again.
