Enough already
« on: June 21, 2005, 03:40:38 AM »
I think we can all agree that it sucks Brunswick wants to move the plant. I am not a big fan of US jobs going to other countries. Brunswick is just one of many in the past decade or so to move production plants. If you want to stop using their equipment then do it because of a quality issue or something like that. Don't do it just because they are going to move the plant in the next few years. With up to date equipment like they say they are going to have it could mean better equipment then what they have now for us to use. Give it time to take place and see what the equipment is like. I do not work at all for Brunswick or have no connections with them. I started using their equipment after using Track only for years and saw my game improve and will stick with the equipment until I see problems with it. Is it to much to ask for the rest of you to do the samething? LIke I have stated and others have as well much of what we use on a daily basis is made out of the country so will you stop using all of that since it is not made in the States I doubt it. Just relax and see what happens before you say you will never use or suppport Brunswick.

How about this: ENOUGH OF THIS DAMN TOPIC!

That's was my whole point on this topic. Let's all grow up and let it go. Everyone is just pi$$ed about this due to it just coming out. Just please let this settle down wait for it to happen and see what the equipment is like when this big move takes place. I can't for see the quality of Brunswick equipment will drop just due to moving to Mexico. Just please cool off and wait to see how this all works out.

I mean, we know that the only reason to run a company is to lose money. My investors don't care that I lose 2 million dollars a year.  My workers are not worried that I evenutally may not be able to make enough money to pay their wages or buy supplies to keep making bowling balls. After all, its either everyone has a job in America, or we can go bankrupt and no one can have a job.

IEQ, I've posted multiple times now that Brunswick corporation turned a 270 million dollar profit last year. More specifically the Bowling/Billiards division turned a 41.4 million dollar margin. I backed up my numbers with the financial quarterlies & annuals directly from Brunswick. Someone else arbitrarily threw out a 1.5 million dollar loss number with no backing. I also even showed where Brunswick addmitted that any possible losses were due to legal arbitration with a chinese pinsetter company, not just high operating costs.

quote:
So who here would pay 25% more for Brunswick balls to keep the plant in the US?

I would, but that's beside the point. The numbers show that Brunswick is not only doing just fine, but the top 4 people in the company make more every year ($7.5 million) than the amount they themselves have stated they would save by moving to Mexico & eliminating jobs. I don't see those 4 people jumping up & offering to take a pay cut. It's sheer greed in the face of real people's livelihoods we're talking about here.

We are losing less than 100 jobs to Mexico.  Yet if they turn a profit, Bruswick maybe able to expand their influence in the states and hire more people here in sales and what not.

Not less than 100... 115 jobs were to be cut. That was Brunswicks press release & also corroborated by an AP news clipping.

quote:
Really, think about it, if the whole ball division went under, then we would have everyone out of a job, instead only 80 or so jobs that are moving.

The ball division was in no danger of going under. If anything it's the bowling centers that have been a drag on their quarterlies (this was admitted to by the CEO in the 4q2004 & 1q2005 breifing). However they have been doing a "weeding & seeding" campaign to close down low profit centers & renovate new ones. They expect to turn a profit on those again by 2q2007.

quote:
"Cake and eat it too" - I want my balls made in America, but I won't pay the extra to keep the jobs here.

Not true at all. The same way I pay an extra buck or 2 for T-shirts & other textiles made here in the mainland US (Not Saipan), I would have gladly paid the 3-5 dollars more it would have cost for rebuilding the muskegon plant.

Nick, Tow the party line & buy into company doublespeak all you want.. I've already posted MULTIPLE TIMES now articles directly from Brunswick & the Associated Press stating that 115 jobs "WERE CUT".

But just because I'm nice I'll paste it in here too:

Brunswick to close Michigan plant
Bowling ball production heads to Mexico

(AP) - Brunswick Corp. said Thursday that it will eliminate 115 Michigan production jobs over two years as it moves bowling ball manufacturing to Mexico to cut costs.

Oh hay, here's some news I missed. Brunswick is cutting 145 jobs right here in Milwaukee, WI too.

http://milwaukee.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/stories/2005/06/13/daily7.html

WHEEEEEE! Nice work Brunswick. I wonder how big of a bonus their CEO is going to get this year. You have to wonder how those people can sleep at night knowing their greedy $4.5 million dollar salary cost over 100 people their jobs. 100 Families who are left without a future.

There's a special place in hell for these people.

BrianN,

That's exactly what I've been trying to get at.

But instead of looking at real world numbers, seeing this is nothing but corporate greed at best, and realizing that we ALL have a part in stopping this trend. It's so much easier for them to pull their heads inside of their shells & lead their little consumer lives. All the while bashing anyone who has the brains, balls, and wearwithall to stand for something.

It's the new fad sweeping the country, anti-intellectualism.
