Need help: Rhino identification
« on: January 28, 2010, 10:17:32 PM »
Hello,

one question for the experts: can anyone tell from the picture what Rhino ball this could be?

Popped up on local ebay, seller does not know anything about it except for the weight... any help highly appreciated!

Memory serves me correctly, this could have been the first reactive Rhino to come out before the Rhino Pros were released.  Pretty weak ball by todays standards.  These came out around 1993 time frame.

Thank you TWOHAND834! I also did some legwork and it must be a "Rhino RE Desert Sky":

http://www.bowlingballdiscounts.com/Balls/Brunswick/Desert_Sky_Rhino_RE-1537

Sources claim that it is the same as the Rhino RE Emerald, but could not find specs for this one yet. Anyone know what coverstock this one uses (probably very mild reactive by today's standards) and RG and differential numbers? I suppose it has the Rhinio light bulb with 0.023" differential inside, but if anyone has a reliable source/link at hand, that would be nice!

If you can make this out here''s a little more info.  This is assuming that the core was the same in the Emerald RE, Desert Sky RE and the Indigo RE...

Thanks a lot to both of you - yes, this helps a lot!

I might give it a shot, since it is NIB. It looks as if it would make a good light condition ball - or a collector's item

My buddy had one when they were new....your assumptions of it being a pretty weak ball would be correct. Very low flare and not much overall motion. Will be good for dry....not light oil....light oil will make it squirrely. Unless you have a ton of hand you will probably have to throw it right thru the friction.
