Title: Fall arsenal - one more addition needed

Ultimate Inferno (Heavy)
Diesel Particle (Medium-heavy)
Depth Charge (medium)
SlayR (dry)

Which current Brunswick ball would you recommend for Medium-Dry?

I like my Time Zone, it is very, very controllable. The drill pattern is in my profile.

Post by: DP3 on August 02, 2004, 05:46:07 PM: Go with another Slay R. Hows the one you have now drilled? this is a very adaptable ball with different drills. I have one drilled 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 sanded to 1200 grit and it's a monster. It's more aggressive than my Teal Rhino(4x4), Blazing Inferno(5x4), and Time Zone(3 3/8x3 3/8, box finish).

Post by: Buckwild on August 02, 2004, 06:50:52 PM: Thanks guys, I'm looking for length with a strong flip, if I have to move inside, but not as long as my Slayr. I have the Slayr drilled with the pin between and above the fingers and the cg slightly right of the pin (no weight hole).

The blazings were 79.95 with free shipping. That was only offered to 'newsletter subscribers'. PM if you want one, you could pay me and I could buy it for you. OR you could just call them up.

Post by: DON DRAPER on August 02, 2004, 11:30:44 PM: the only real problem with using the time zone for a medium-dry condition is that the coverstock is powrkoil 18 which is very aggressive and would get into a roll too soon. a blazing inferno for the price listed would be a good alternative. the classic zone may also be worth looking into.

Post by: RandyO on August 03, 2004, 12:57:05 AM: I like the Time Zone with the factory hi-gloss polish for what you're looking for. Pin around 5 to 6 from axis, PSA somewhere right of the thumbhole. Monster Frenzy might work too with the right drilling.

Post by: Buckwild on August 03, 2004, 11:54:38 AM: Thanks to all for your suggestions. I was in Brunswick's website, and checked out the specs on each of the balls. It looks like a toss up between the Blazing and the Classic Zone.

Ratings for both balls:

Blazing: Hook-110; Length-115; Break-90; Diff-.033
Classic: Hook-115; Length-110; Break-85; Diff-.048

Almost the same except for the differential.

These compare well in a spot above the SlayR which has: Hook-70; Length-165; Break-90; Diff-.043

I have the Newsletter from Bowlingball.com. When I get home, I'll check it out, and if the specs of the Blazing look good (top weights, pin distance), then I might pick it up.

Post by: RandyO on August 03, 2004, 12:20:25 PM: "Strong flip" is the last thing I would use to describe either of the Blazing Infernos I USED TO own. The Classic Zone has a strong move on the backend, but remember that it does have the same Activator coverstock as the original Inferno. No matter how much you polish it, it's stil too strong to be considered a medium-dry ball.
Lastly - specs are deceiving. The Classic Zone is WAAAAAAY more ball than the Blazing Inferno. It will flat out MOVE. The Blazing never did move much for me unless there was serious dry for it to grip with ZERO carrydown.

By "touch of surface" How much would you put on the SlayR? If that's the case, I would save a ton of money. Power Grooves can be bought for less than $50.

Thanks for giving me a heads up on the Blazing. I read on a previous post that there were a "bad batch" of Blazings that were out there (don't want to get stuck with one). Hopefully by next week, I will go to the pro shop and get this sorted out.
