Finally gave in and got a Twisted Solid...
« on: August 13, 2008, 12:13:54 PM »
I couldnt help myself, I love my Twisted Pearl, its always the first ball out of the bag, and I have HUGE success with it ever since I got it. Now that am I am going to be Bowling in college, I was looking for something would be able to handle more oil. We got 2 Twisted Fury Solids in and I hand picked the 2-3 pin, 3oz of top, punched it up pin under ring, cg right of the palm.
I threw 4 games to try it out, 38ft house shot, with prolly 10-20 games from open bowlers.
First off, ball rolls amazing. One thing that surprised me the most, was even though the ball is dull OOB, it didnt take off as soon as the ball encountered dry. It was great as it smooth in, through, and off the dry. Unbelievably predictable. Easily the most predictable I have ever thrown. As soon as the ball comes off your hand and gets about 20-30 feet down, you cant tell exactly what its going to do. It didnt overreact UNLESS you practically came up the buttcrack of the ball, in which it obviously got into a roll way too early.

I will say one thing I had a HORRIBLE problem with, and that was strong 10 pins. I would move all over trying to find a line into the pocket that would carry, and it just didnt not want to kick the 10 pin out unless you came in high flush. I just overall seemed to hit too hard, and the 6 would wrap around the 10. One thing that kind of disappointed about.

But still overall, great ball. Its predictability makes it an instant favorite. The Twisted Fury Pearl and the Twisted Fury solid will definitely become a popular 1-2 punch.

Thanks for Reading,
Chrispy

I quit going pin down with Brunswick the last few months. Since the balls have got stronger pin above bridge to me is what pin below was a few years back.

Used this layout on a fury solid before traveling this summer and that was my go to ball early on.

Could be a valid point, Dean, but it depends on the bowler's PAP, etc.

I, on the other hand, drill almost everything pin below, then adjust the surface to match up with the conditions. There is no "one layout" that will be great for everyone due to the individual characteristics we all have as we bowl. Good luck, Chrispy. You'll find a happy medium.

Your post completely makes sense Ric, I appreciate it. I guess I just didnt understand why the ball would obliterate the pocket 5 or 6 shots in a row and the next shot would be a pancake flat 7-10, you know what I mean?

Dean, I look forward to bowling witht you too. Right now we are in the works with getting a sponsorship with brunswick, which really would change much for me since I have all Brunswick stuff. As the layout you described, I had a Dead Flush drilled like and Loved it. On the other hand, it died after 30 games, lol. Also, Im guess you know Daniel Farish? tell him Chris Brown said hi...

notclay, after a few practices I will try changing it to 2000 and see what it does. For right now, Im trying to get used to a ball that is sooooo predictable, lol...

Very good points made by Ric in this thread.  I also value your opinion in many cases.  I intend to throw nothing but Brunswick and Columbia from now on, but if I can it will be more Brunswick.  These two companies just have my attention right now.  Anyways, it's because of this thread that I may end up getting a TFS for a next step up from my Rival especially be I liked very controllable equipment, and although I prefer smooth over snappy it seems like the TFS is a happy medium between the two with clean movement in front and a nice kick in the back.  This is based off of Brunswick's video and what has been said in this thread, seems accurate to me.
