Fire Quantum ....rolled out????
« on: February 06, 2006, 07:18:32 AM »
Nation....had a unusual experience this weekend with my Fire Quantum during a senior bowling event.  Pulled out my new fire which had been sitting on my shelves to use on a lightly oiled condition and was amzed to see it go about 3/4 down the lane and hooking and then it stopped and straightened out.  The reaction was like a ball with thumb weight....hook then set.
I couldn't get my normal pin out configuration....it can with a 2" pin so the proshop drilled it pin over bridge and cg under the ring finger..at first I thought the ball must have thumb weight somehow but turned out it didn"t..one recommendation was it wasn't the right ball for that lane condition..perhaps true but I would like to use the ball but would like some advice how to fix it.

REDRILL?? if so how??  Rework the coverstock?? if so, how??  Also have the Monster Slayer drilled the same way and haven't been happy with the reaction that I"m getting with that one either.   Thanks for your time and advice. Dr "C"

2" with the pin over the ring? Does it have an x-hole? Depending on the top, it probably needs one. It'd be worthwhile to try a flare-reducing x-hole.

Thanks for your replys.....I will first trynto polish with 2000 grit and then add extender polish to see if I can move the ball further down the lane before it rolls out which may be o.k.  If this doesn't work I'll probably just keep in reserve for those few days when there is oil present (not often) I have other balls I can use just would have liked another fire as my first one was one hell of a ball.. once again Thanks....RC

Hmm, I'd also bet primarily on the ball simply losing energy due to friction and rolling out. The FQ is PK18 pearl, which ois pretty strong, plus a low RG core. It should be a very good choice on medium conditions, but since PK18 is pretty aggressive, I think you had just not enough oil or a too short pattern to have the FQ work properly - even with a length drilling like pin above bridge.

Trying a higher grit polish base could do the trcik, but I am overall sceptical. I guess you will need a weaker coverstock and/or a medium/high RG core to work for you on the situation you described.

Ive had 3 different fire quantums, the one I currently throw has over 2000 games on it and still looks and reacts like the day it was drilled which i straight label with a 3" Pin hooks a tonne on anything where where isnt a lot of carrydown. and carry is unbelievable!!!
