12lb Total Inferno vs. 14lb Total Inferno, please help!
« on: May 01, 2007, 04:29:19 AM »
i currently throw a 12lb ball.  i was planning on purchasing a total inferno ball but am stuck on deciding whether to get a 12lb or 14lb.  i tried throwing a 14lb house ball for a couple games and my ball speed is significantly slower but i seem to pick up more pins here and there.

is there a significant differnece in performance from 12lb to 14lb?  thank you.

When it comes to non-house ball equipment, there is a rather significant difference.  Most bowling companies use what is called a "light weight" core in their equipment for weights under 14lbs.  Even though your ball speed will be slower, you'll gradually work up the strength to throw the 14 just as good, if not better, than your 12.  The 14 also carries much better, since there is more weight for the ball to push over the pins.

The light weight core in most equipment is not as powerful as the normal core found in the 14-16 pound set.  The extra weight coupled with the more powerful core yields much better results.

Hope this helps.

When I used 14lbs I went straight to 16lbs and for about a week or to my ball spped was slower, but it eventually got faster, and now I even throw the ball harder than when I used 14lbs.

brunswick does use a "full size" core in the 12lb. total inferno but it's not the same one used in 14-16lb. balls. the rg numbers and the differential are somewhat similar using the different core.

my wrists can get angry easily....the fury i ordered is 14 lbs....moving up from a 12 pounder...should be an interesting transition...almost as interesting as going from 2 fingers to 2 fingers and a thumb  that took awhile..

i probably would have gotten a 13 lb fury...but it's got the generic core...and well...who wants that...
