not sure what to do. these are my son's. he is a 14yr old in a youth league with a pro shop guy who seems to mess with the shot a lot(or his machine is crap). one week the shot seems very long with very little backend and balls just skid through the break, the next week it's the dream shot, doesn't matter which ball he uses they just carry, the next week one ball burns itself up early and won't carry the ten and the other won't roll soon enough. also the plastic ball bowlers throw another variable into the equation. not sure how to combat it, do we flip flop the finishes on the 2 balls or do I bite the bullet and just buy him a true solid to smooth out the over under created by these conditions? we bought both balls used and honestly love the reactions of both on the right conditions. he's frustrated, I'm frustrated and need some input. for the record, I am not blaming the shop guy, don't expect him to lay down the perfect shot just want to know how to combat it.

That is a tough one.  It seems that if the 2 balls your son has both work on the right conditions, there really isn't a huge need to mess with anything such as layout or surface.  I would be interested to see if there is an issue with lane maintenance or the patterns first.  It could simply just be a need to adjust differently than what he may have already been doing.  However there might be a need to eventually pick up a third ball.  That would be entirely up to you.

I would say if you guys like Brunswick and decide a third ball is needed, you may want to consider the Nexus Solid or possibly the DV8 Hell Raiser for longer conditions.

If one ball is burning itself and getting to the pocket and not carrying the ten pin then he can make adjustments to get better entry angle and carry. No new ball needed. It doesn't sound like it is burning up.

what balls does he have? i would recommend the victory road. its not a very aggressive ball but it hits like a tank on all patterns that i have thrown it. more aggressive balls that have great carry for me is the taboo and the nano. i havent thrown brunswick in a while but their new nexus balls are selling fairly good around here. i would wait for the roto grip defiant that comes into stores in january. i have thrown it and it will turn heads.

+1. From your description, it does not sound to be "the balls' fault", rather a release and alignment issue - esp. when things work now and then. Lanes could be spotty or oiled unevenly, but a frequent 10 pin is not a ball issue.

One thing to consider, though, is that both ball have a coverstock that tends to float easily through the heads and react very strong and quickly to dry areas. This can cause over/under issues, even with a sanded surface, and bot balls are pretty similar in design, having a low RG core with a considerable mass bias. IMHO not a smart arsenal, chances are high that when one ball does not "work" the other won't, too.

If you want to add a ball (and I do not think that this is the true solution to the prroblem you describe), maybe go for a simple Karma Solid, and maybe hit it with Rough Buff or a 4.000 grit pad. The ball would be very different in many aspects, and esp. react more smoothly to friction with a less violent break point and also less entry angle, which could promote better carry (which should be mended thorugh release changes, though). Just my 2 cents.

these 2 balls are definately not the same. on a clean shot using the same line, say 20 out to 5-7 the ultra zone is much snappier probably 2-4 boards stronger than the evil siege, i'm guessing because of the polish. the evil siege is so smooth almost solid looking the way it reacts to the dry, again guessing the surface being duller has to do with this.

we were expecting the ultra zone to be a smooth rolling ball. and thought the hybrid cover would help to take some of the over under out of the equation and be good carry down ball. neither ball seems to handle carry down well at all.

IMHO, you need a ball with a wider range of lane condtions that it will work on. Those Big B balls with the Activator coverstocks fit the bill for me. They will work on most conditions other than the extremes

Both balls look to have longer pin to PAP distances. I'd consider getting something and drilling it to start hooking sooner. Maybe closer to a 4" pin to pap distance. Something in the mid series would be a good choice. Maybe the Lethal Revolver.

Take a long pin revolver or loaded.  Leave it pin up two inches from the fingers with no hole.  PM me your email I can show you want I mean. It will give you the length and read the lane great
