green pin has a softer cover.  red pins cured out harder than thr green pin version.

i had both red and black pin, the red pin is alot more mild than the black. but it really depends on what you want the ball to do... both are great. i had the red pin when i was really learning how to bowl and since then ive gotten the black pin and its pretty much my favorite ball i own.
