We started using adjusted cores in lighter weights so we could maintain the needed RG's and diffs that would maintain the performance characteristics of the heavier balls.
As for the color, as we say "each ball is a snowflake, no two the same", there are some that look practically black, and there are some with very nice amounts of purple swirled through them. Personally, I have both and like both. The one with a lot of purple looks really good polished.
