Fury Pearl question
« on: November 23, 2007, 06:43:12 AM »
For those that have the Fury Pearl, was there some break-in period or surface adjustments made before you achieved your desired reaction?

I threw mine for the first time Wednesday night and it did nothing.

Thanks,
Jeff

Mine is about 2000 abralon instead of the 4000 from the factory.  Remember it's still a pearl reactive, and will need a few dry boards to get started.

I moved right and found dry boards.  It seemed to start up and then quit.  It was not flaring much at all.  I asked because I wanted to know if I should tweak the surface before punching in a weight hole down.

I've been hitting all the Fury Pearls with a grey scotchbrite in the Haus, takes off the excessive shine from the factory. (Some of the newer batches have come shinier than needed)

Most balls that "roll out" do so because they encounter friction too soon. Try moving slightly inside but swing the ball out to the dry.  If that doesn't help, then adjust the cover depending on where you'd like to use it.

If you'd like to stay on the dry, then a little polish will probably keep it from rolling out.  If you have some Bean's Secret Sauce, I'd recommend it. If you'd like to play a little deeper, then try it around 2000 abralon first, and gradually go duller if needed.

Don't do much until you use it again, though, since lane conditions are always changing.  It's hard to pinpoint what is best for you because I can't see you bowl, etc.

Sometimes carry-down can also be mistaken for the ball rolling out. That's why it's not a bad idea to try it again on a different day or at least a different lane.

How is it drilled and what is your PAP?

Thanks for all the help.

Nick,

Funny thing with what you said, ball didn't look like a pearl.  Ball was rather dull looking, like it had already been sanded.

I used my Fury to determine the line.  Then made a 2/2 adjustment to right, never wrinkled.  Flare rings were barely apart enough to differentiate.  I moved another couple right and ball checked up, but rolled out.  I then pulled out the Zone Classic and was fine.

I was just confused, that is why I asked here.

Nick,

PAP 5 1/2" over 3/8" up.

Pin over ring, 5 1/2" or so.

Thanks,
Jeff

With the Fury series, I usually lay them out with a 4" layout, just to ensure strong separation of flare. Higher pins generally show better separation than lower pin layouts.

Originally, the Fury Pearls came duller out of the box, lately they have changed and are coming shiny.

My Fury solid is pin under bridge, also 5 1/2" to PAP with a small flare increasing hole, just because of too much side and I loved the reaction prior to hole.  Currently at 1000 abralon.

Nick,

Do you think I should add weight hole now or try surface first?

The Fury can be pretty bowler specific, finding the "sweet spot" is important.

If it was one of the dull ones, I'd take the surface up to at least 1000ish and go from there. X-Hole may be a good idea soon, especially if you're not seeing much flare. (However, lower flaring balls are great for staying straighter in the track for longer periods of time)

We had a Fury Pearl I drilled for a customer ( the guy who shot back to back 300's  - so he is a good player), and the ball went dead straight. Our distributer told us there was a bad batch of them and took the ballback. They said this was per Brunswick
