Blazing Inferno - How to drill?
« on: December 15, 2003, 08:41:38 PM »
I just purchased this ball off Ebay, hope to have it ready by Christmas.  Can someone tell me how I should drill it?  I like to consider myself a power player, although I cannot give you my MPH, rev rate, etc.  I can play across the lane or down and in.  What will give me the most backend and carry?

Thanks.

Without any info it will be tough to guess....I'm still learning but I feel like I have a decent understanding of layouts...The inferno's are symmetrical cores so the pin is the big controller.

do you track real high?  If so that will influence pin placement....I have a high track and if I put the pin too low it will flare over the middle finger hole....

Is the roll pattern of your ball more forward or a lot of axis rotation??  A bunch of axis rotation will get the ball longer anyway.

As a shot in the dark, I'd say a high pin (above fingers) and kick the CG out slightly (1/2" from grip center) like a 5 X 4.5 or a 4.5 X 4.5 will keep the ball long, not need an xtra hole, and the core and cover of that ball will make it move pretty well.....

Carry on the other hand.......all i can say is if you figure something out let me know!!! LOL!!!  (on the bright side, my raging inferno carry's like MAD, I like it so much I bought a regular inferno!)

I'll make some rough estimates to help out:

Speed: 14-17 MPH
Revs: No idea, I'd say very high for that amount of speed, usually play big angle

My ball tends to have a high track when I throw it.  My style is pretty unusual, something one would never teach.  I average 200 though, so I won't change what's working.

And for clarification, can someone tell me what the extra hole does?  My last two balls have had them, and I'm not quite sure what they do (Columbia Game and Ebonite Tiger - both sweet in their prime).

Thanks again.

Check out my question on Balance Holes in the Drilling Layout section. X-holes generally do a number of things, based on your track, and what the intention of the driller was. The x-hole can:1) smooth out a flippy reaction; 2)add more flare; 3)take out extra ball weight; 4)change your breakpoint, by delaying it or making it happen earlier, depending on the placement of the hole. That's why I presented the original question. I need to know the max width in inches, that I'm allowed to make my holes, so I can tweak the reactions on a coupla of my pieces. Hope this helps.
