Twisted Fury
« on: November 22, 2010, 07:17:43 AM »
Looking for any insight on the Twisted Fury.  Just had a friend give one to me NIB.  What surface has worked best for you? Pin up or pin down? I'm a right handed bowler and I typically stand as far left as my ball will let me and throw out to the 5 board on my THS.  Looking for the most aggresive movement I can get out of this ball, so open to all suggestions.

Thank you!

Due to the core, I''d probably recommend a stronger layout for you. Maybe 4" from PAP and below the fingers. This ball worked best for me once I knocked the gloss off the cover.

Every ball with this core needed strong layouts for MOST bowlers. The exception is the high rev bowler. Also, I would NOT use the interchangeable thumb inserts with this ball. They simply remove too much mass. Just use a normal thumb insert or drilling and you''ll be fine.

I had one and really loved it. After using it for a year, I gave it to a friend that needed a ball but couldn't afford one. He still has it today and it is the first ball out of his bag. After giving it away, I mised it for a long time until I found anotehr abll taht reacted close.

As Clay says the Twisted Fury needed to be drilled strong. BrunsNick told me to drill mine 4 1/4 x 3 1/2 with pin under fingers and it was perfect.

I have one, pin above ring finger and MB about 1 3/4 inches right of the thumb.  It gives good length and an almost but not quite snap on the backend - very controllable with good carry.  I would NOT sand it unless you are a high rev player as it will start up early and then not finish very hard on the backend.  For me, it is particularly good at playing up the boards even after there has been some lineage on the lane and some of the oil is gone.  I never have any over/under issues with it.  In my opinion, it is ideal for the 2nd or 3rd game of a first shift league or for a second shift league, but on fresh oil there are better options.  I start with a pin over fingers Virtual Gravity throwing over the 13 board in my house on the fresh, and after about 2 games I can often pull out the TF and play over that spot with it depending on how heavy the oil was at the start.

Strong drill recommended, and keep surface OOB. The cover offers very easy length, and I'd only add some surface (4.000 abralon or a 400 grit base plus  a coat of Rough Buff) if you face breakpoint control issues - the stuff reacty quickly with dry boards! The high RG and lower differential should mellow this trait, but you can add some surface without sacrificing much length.

I remember I was told to drill out the TF strong but I ended up drilling it pin over middle finger with the cg in the center and mb about an inch from the thumb. It's quite versatile for me in med dry/oil depending on how I want to roll it.  I used it on the white pattern with a small swing and it worked very well.  I can also flatten it out and play dry boards.

I kind of appreciate the Big B balls now.

I had the pin above the ring (4.5" from PAP) and needed to take it down to 2000 with an abralon pad so I could see a more consistent backend reaction.  This ball tended to be a bit squirty in carrydown with box finish

I had mine drilled pin up over the fingers with the cg stacked in the palm. Mass bias was about 1 inch to the right of the thumb. Tough ball!!! Shot a couple 8's and a few 3's with it. It was a very good ball. One of the best brunswick had brought out in a while!!

sounds overall like the ball is pretty versitile depending on your bowling style and what you're looking at getting out of the ball.  might just have to experiment with it a lil bit to find what i like.

Yup. I think the higher RG core/med-low diff. core is the best combo with that coverstock, because the stuff reacts quickly when hitting the dry. The core does not rev up as quickly as the lower RG cores in the Python or Smash Zone, si I think the TFP is more versatile and forgiving than the later offerings.
