Title: Goliath... Does this ball hook as much as they say?
Post by: Ric Clint on November 18, 2004, 07:24:23 PM
I've heard mixed reviews... and BTM Mag said they wished it had of had more backend recovery... so I'm wondering is this ball as much as Brunswick says?

If you miss wide, can it recover on some oil... or is this just a ball that gets into a roll really quick on Heavy Oil and keeps you out of trouble with it's predictablity?

Granted, I've only seen one thrown, but seeing what the BTM says matches what I've seen.  Of course, the ball is drilled pin axis, so I shouldn't give a definitive opinion, but it seems to retain energy pretty well.  I'd guess it'd hold its own on heavy stuff.

No, really, I like you.  Now, by all means, feel free to go fornicate yourself with a sharp object.

I don't have the highest speed and revrate in the world, but I've thrown about 100+ balls in my short career and I have never had a ball that was too aggressive for even the heaviest oil I see.  I had to get rid of Goliath, not because it burned up too early, but because it HOOKED too much.  It's a fun ball to throw just to watch people's jaws drop but it was just wasting a space in my bag.  Hopefully Trouter13 is having fun with it now.

My driller punched one up for himself and, as is often the case for him with hook monsters, it went just about dead straight.  But then he has one of the more peculiar track/tilt/rotation combinations I've ever seen (low, nearly spinner track; PAP about 3" from grip center and very high, about 2" above midline) - balls that are straight for others hook for him and vice versa.

I purchased a Goliath about a month ago.  The ball has a lot of hook, but don't expect a big backend reaction.  The hook is in the front and midlane.  Every other ball I have hooks more on the backend.  Having said that, this ball is better on oil than any other ball I have.  That is what I bought it for.

I like to describe the backend motion like a drift instead of a hook.  It is like a car on the interstate changing from the right lane to the left lane.  However there is no quit in the drift once it reaches the pins.
