Maintaining the fury

i just got the fury last night and bowled quite a few games with it. i have to say that i absolutely love it. I was wanting to know how everyone is going about cleaning their own furys? what type of products works best on this ball?

Clean it after every use.  I just use the regular old Brunswick Ball Cleaner, that's glorified Windex.  Afte 15 or so games, maybe use some Clean and Dull Ball Cleaner on it for a deeper cleaning.

Makue sure you wipe it between shots.  Clean it when you're done with it.  Resurface it after 150 games or so.  Hot water bath if you want down the road.

It really soaks a lot of oil, doesn't it?

this ball soaks it like a sponge! i do wipe it clean before every shot, and i generally use a cleaner i got at the pro shop about every 3-4 games. I've heard of people doing the hot water bath, but what exactly should i do for that?

there's no need to sand a ball like that if the cover is in decent shape and you're still getting a quality ball reaction.

as for cleaner, i use a product called Alley Catz. 24 pack of wipes, good stuff.

Fair enough.  I don't keep a log of how many games I've put on a ball and generally agree with you.  I've felt that after 150-200 games or so the cover starts to wear a track into it and a resurfacing is in order.  But the cover hardness, lane conditions, etc all play into this.

I'd agree there's no metric for it.  It's something the bowler has to observe.

I've gotten through well over 150 on my power groove and I havent resurfaced yet. I do imagine that this fury will track up sooner becuase it is not as hard of a ball. thanks for both of your inputs.

For the hot water bath, how do you cover the holes to prevent the water from getting in there?

I use Silly Putty.  Get a couple eggs of it and just plug each hole.  It works great.  Plug them up, soak it and then let it sit and cool down and the Silly Putty pops right out.

Others may and probably will say different, but unless you are using grips, you don't need to worry about covering the holes.  I personally just use slugs, so I haven't had to worry about it.  Most people I know that use insterts just taped their's up with duct tape.  I only leave it in the water for about 20 minutes and repeat the process until I get the desired results, usually 2-3 times for each ball.  I just use hot water from the tap and a little bit of dish soap.

I do use finger grips, so i guess that I would need to tape them up. If I don't tape up the thumb hole and the weight hole, wouldnt the water just soak right into the core? I would imagine that is something that I would not want to happen.....   one more thing, what would you use to get the residue that the tape leaves off of the bowling ball? 409?

There's another thread about giving your ball a water bath going on.

I personally haven't had any problems with my equipment after a water bath without covering the holes and I don't know anybody who has.  But covering the holes isn't going to hurt anything either.  I'm just too lazy to take the extra 5 minutes to cover the hold and clean it off again later.  Any cleaner should get the residue off.  I just use ball cleaner, Lane Masters works pretty well, if you can get bast the smell.  Plus I understand it use to be worse.
