Hairline crack on Radical

During practice today, noticed a hairline crack at the base of the thumbhole, about 1/2 inch long. In my opinion, it could have happened when the Pro shop guy hammered the thumb slug into the ball. Can't find any other reasons how this can happen...Will it be serious ? Can I just ignore it and continue using the ball ? Thanks

Every company makes balls that crack for some people.  In this case, it was probably the drillers fault, (maybe dull bit caused wobbly hole).  Anyway, why do people have to post this garbage and give quality balls from any company bad names?

Are you saying that I am posting garbage ??? So if I have a query on a ball I have to go somewhere else to do it ? This forum is only for people to say good stuffs about the ball ?

Mine has a small hairline crack near the pin. I understand why since the pin is only about 1/2 inch over the ring finger. It doesn't affect the performance of the ball. If it starts to chip, I will see what can be done to possibly replace it. If not, the world is not coming to an end.

On the slug installation, there is a way to do it that puts less stress on the ball itself. After the slug hole is drilled, prep the hole for the slug and use the spindle of the drill press (minus the bit of course)with a second slug and push the bottom slug into the hole. By doing this you use the top slug as a buffer and it pushes the slug down into the hole instead of forcing it down like hammering does.

I was taught to push slugs in this way also, but I have recently heard of people cracking off the crank on the press by doing this.

The most disturbing thing i see is a fool like yourself. All ball manufacturers have guidlines that drillers should follow when drilling their equipment. It states the requirements for the ball to be covered by the warranty. If this is not followed they will not replace it and reasonably so. I had an absolute cracked and it was covered by Brunswick. As for the crack when slugging ball, sometimes the slug will make a ball crack especially if the drill is undersized or the slug is oversized. I had slug that I did not check the size and was pressing in place. The slug went in half way and the ball cracked all the way around. I measured the piece of slug above the surface of the ball and it was oversized.

The two guys that supposedly could not get their balls replaced have issues with their pro shops not Brunswick.  It is easier for Brunswick to deal with 20-30 distributors instead of thousands of pro shops.  That just makes sense.

The problem was with the so called "pro shop professionals".  If they were good pro shop guys, they would have taken care of the customer, it wasn't going to cost them anything but time and a slug.  The distributor/Brunswick/any ball company would have taken care of the shop.

But there are so many people that want everything for dirt, "I get my balls drilled for $16.00 including grips, slugs, extra hole, resurfacing, and 100 free games, and he's the best in _________ State".  Same kind of guy that won't fix a warranty.  You get dirt if you pay dirt.

Then certain members want to trash some including me for charging what I do and such....  Just to show, I warrantied a guy's Big One this week.  He just moved to Houston from Michigan.  Never seen him before in my life.  My distributor warrantied his Big One.  I charged him $56+ for drilling the new ball and he was thrilled.  Felt better and hooked more than his other one.

BTW, I use regular old claw hammer to hammer in EVERY SLUG, that I install, usually with the ball sitting on the floor.  99% of 'em, I just have to tap them in about 3 times, no pressure at all.

Mrtourlane or whatever;  we all know you have some kind of issue with Brunswick, but by your profile and posts your real issue should be with your 8th grade English teacher.  Try to pay more attention this year in 9th grade.

The purpose of my thread is that my Radical has a hairline crack at the base of the thumbhole and I just wanted to know is that serious and if I can ignore it and continue using the ball. I did not mentioned anything about the Pro shop or the ball distributor did not want to change the ball for me at all or in the first place, I did not mentioned that I wanted to get the ball changed. I have gotten a reply from Bob and happy with it.
Think this thread should just end here and would like to thank everybody for the comments.

BrunsBob...As I said, the proshop I got the ball from went out of business a little while after I purchased it, so I had no way of dealing with the warranty through the proshop.

Before this incident, I had no trouble with Brunswick balls and I have none now as well with the couple Brunswick balls I have.

I was just shocked that I got treated that bad when I inquired about the warranty.

Like I was telling BrunsNick, to be honest, it makes sense not to honor the warranty to the end customer, actually. If you did, then you would have everybody and their momma calling and emailing you guys for a free ball.

Giving the great way I've seen Storm, Rotogrip, Lane #1, Columbia & AMF handle some of the warranty claims of the users on Ballreviews, It was just weird I got treated totally horrible when I tried to get some warranty service.

Seriously though, if you a scan of someones proshop receipt for $219 (with the serial number on the receipt, pics of a cracked ball (with a pic of the serial number)...What would you do ?
