Have-a-Ball League Need Help on chossing 2 balls.
« on: May 30, 2006, 06:28:14 AM »
Hello,

Im new to this forum but Ive been bowling since I was 14 yrs old and im now 20. I currently use the old Coloumbia 300 Titanium Messanger Pearl. I as of now avrg 180-190 but  just recently got back into bowling.

Im a righty and bowl with two-fingers I thrwo pretty damn hard even compared to ppl quite a bit bigger than me. Also I have a TON of revs from what some pro shops have told me since seeing me bowl. I normally stand in the middle and roll the ball out to about the 5 about 70% down the lane and then it swings back to pocket. BUT thats only on medium-dry or dry lanes which is what i was told that ball was made for.

Since Ive gotten to strong for this ball and im not even making it back to pocket unless I throw it alot slower which makes me feel like i have less control over it for some reason.

Now to the topic at hand Im ina  Have-a-Ball league at my Brunswick Zone and we get to choose 2 balls. The balls are: Any Inferno, Any Zone, Any BVP, Any Target, The One and the Big One. Ive bowled with the Big One and it have a rounded arc with the way I bowl which I really dont like. But I recently bowled with the Scorchin' Inferno and the ppl that avrg 220+ in my league said that was the perfect ball for me after I threw it cuz they said they never have seen any one throw one with so much curve and hitting power thats not a pro. So I know I want that ball.

Now I need a ball to complement it when it starts reacting too early. And  do have the Messenger for dryer lanes so I need something for the middle. Any thoughts I kinda wanted the Goliath but Ive never thrown it. And I got a very aggressive hook with the Vapor Zone when I tried it. I need a ball that can make it back to pocket with the amount of speed I put on the ball. Also I dont wnat 2 Infernos cuz that cost $50 more.

What the difference between the rampage and the goliath? I tried the punisher and it did nothing for me. So what will be the difference?

The Goliath is a nice mid particle ball i believe. THe punish is basically for light to really midlight oil but it can handle league patterns....at least my buiddies can. But a rampage is a nice medium-mediumlight oil ball. It'll be under you scorchin, and will help pick up after you put your scorchin down.

Vapor Zone/Rampage or VZ/Strike Zone.

I think I need a ball wiht enuff flip/hook to keep up with my speed. So from this list choose a ball or two.

Goliath
Rampage
Strike Zone
Vapor Zone
Other thats not a Inferno

Now could the Smokin' pick up in mid-game 2 where the Scorchin' would over hook? If it can I might pay the extra $50 to get it.

if it's out of that line up...i'd go with the vapor zone.  it would go a little longer but it will scream back to pocket.

So yuo use your vapor zone when the Scorchin' hooks too much? So my lineup would look like Scorchin'->Zapor Zone->Colombia 300 Titanium Messanger Pearl or Scorchin'->BVP Rampage->Colombia 300 Titanium Messanger Pearl.

For what you listed, I get the Strike Zone for the heavier stuff, and a Vapor Zone, Zone Classic, or Rampage as your step down.

scorchin is i would say a love it or hate it ball.  if it works for you then do so.  you didn't want another inferno so i suggested an alternative which is the vapor zone. most lanes played on is usually ths. i can only use my scorchin for 1st game only.  then i go with my vz or oi once the lanes starts breaking down.

If you want to stick with the SCI which seems to work for you, go ahead.
For "something below", a recommendation is hard to make. I'd look for a pearl ball anyway. The VZ is pretty strong. It will certainly go longer than the SCI, but if you encounter some drier conditions, it might be too much or you have to drill it for length. The ZC might IMHO be ther more versatile addition.

The Rampage might be an option, too, as well as the Ambush. Might even be the most versatile choice as a fall-back-ball since it is particle pearl with a medium RG and differential - should work well on late games, carrydown situations and even medium conditions.

Yeah I heard that about the Scrochin' but when I threw it for a game it was perfect for me with a stronger hook than ive seen in any video or my leagues. May be it has something to do with me bowling with 2 fingers and the revs being insane. The vapor zone hooked alot like my Colombia 300 Titanium Messenger Pear(black/gold) does on medium-dry lanes.

The Strike zone my friend has it does hook well with my throwing speed. So that is out the question. The punisher doesnt react even in dry conditions with my throwing speed so I dont know how well the Rampage would do either. As of now its looking like Im gonna get the SI for oily condition and vapor for medium and keep my messenger pearl for dry days.

Thx all and if you still ahve any comments that would be great.

I'm not doubting your choices, but something doesn't quite add up.  Most no-thumbers don't have high speed.  It's difficult to get a big backswing without your thumb in the ball.  If you have "insane" revs, a Punisher should be a huge ball for you on dry lanes, even if you were in the 20 MPH range.  If a Strike Zone doesn't do much for you, it's either burning up, or your speed is highly dominant over your revs.  Getting a rough estimation of your physical game will help you choose the best equipment.
