Is this an original Black Amber Zone?
« on: September 02, 2008, 12:04:34 AM »
Just a question for the experts: this ball popped up on German ebay without much description:

http://cgi.ebay.de/Zone-Bowlingkugel-NEU-Ungebohrt-15LBS-GOLD-Schwarz_W0QQitemZ150288842351QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item150288842351&_trkparms=72%3A456%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

NIB, 15 pounds, looks to me like the first Zone ever, a Black Amber Zone?
Anyone knows what coverstock it uses? I know it has a low diff. core, much like an Avalanche, but not much more...

Any expert help is appreciated

Yes, thats an amber zone for sure. I dont know what the numbers were, but it was a lower rg and low diff ball.

2.7 avg RG .023 Diff coverstock was Repellant Reactive.  NIB this would be a rarity and would work better on drier conditions just because of the different viscosity in todays oil.

the black amber zone and the burgundy zone both came out around the same time in january of 1995. the black amber was a polished reactive pearl with a core that was similar to the core in the sapphire zone. the burgundy zone was a sanded reactive sold with the core from the rhino pro le. these balls were developed with the pba tour in mind but the pba lane maintenence crew changed their lane patterns and these balls became less effective.

Thank you for the confirmation! I was a bit tempted since it is NIB, as a rarity
