Help please - oil condition / Absolute Inferno
« on: September 21, 2006, 04:00:46 AM »
Well, it is like this.... as my house is putting more oil on the lanes I took my Absolute Inferno last Tuesday. At practice the ball seemed to rol fine to me but had a hard time to make the turn. I was standing 14 to 8 at the arrows (my comfort zone is around 20). I began with six shots in the pocket: 7-10, weak 10 (missed), X,X, spare, spare. Then the next three shots the ball overreacted and 3 splits. I ended with 3 strikes and 153. Next game, I stand 18-19 and the first two shots the ball didn't make the turn=2 splits. The condition is kind of tricky because of what I explained before. I had kind of success with my Big Time Pearl averaging 190 before they changed the oil. I returned with the idea of applying my green scotch brite to the Absolute, but first I wanted to ask here for comments about how to proceed. The ball has the pin above the bridge and the cg 1 inch to the right and 1 inch above center of span, no wgt. hole. I have a little bit above avg. revs. and speed. Comments will be appreciated.

Thank you very much.

With more oil on the lane, the ball will naturally take a little longer to get back to the pocket. Combine this with a factory polished ball, a Skid-Snap drilling and you are just asking for an over-under reaction(much like what appeared to happen to your second game)!!! That combination will be very speed sensitive and you are not able to control the speed to within a small margin, try one of the following:

Go ahead and try out the scotch brite pad first to see if that helps (it should slightly). It will have the ball try to make the turn earlier which is needed for longer or heavier shots. If not, take the surface to around 600 or 800 with a spinner. And if that doesn't help, redrill with the pin under the fingers and the CG kicked towards the axis for earlier roll with a controllable arc.

Hope this helps

PM me if any questions or with the results!!

My Absolute does goes longer even drilled 2E with With X-hole. I almost have it redrilled but ProShop advised to Sand it first. Now Works as I want it. Control not Skid.

First, thanks for all the answers posted, I'm considering all comments about resurfacing, redrilling and buying a new Wizard.

Now, I took my AI to practice last weekend because I said it's not possible that my most expensive ball is not working. I started practicing with it, three games of 170 then finished with 210, 200 (if I don't miss a couple of easy spares = 230, 210).  I finished practice standing at 27-28 which is not my comfort zone (17-22) but managed to make a decent score the last games. Lesson learned: if inexperienced bowler then don't take to league a ball that you haven't used in a long time. I learned the hard way as last week shot 490 and yesterday took my BigTimePearl (which i can play my comfort zone and have more experience with) to score 610. Well, such is life.
