Avalanche Pearl question
« on: May 10, 2008, 06:20:03 AM »

Would the Avalanche Pearl be anywhere close to the Ebonite Tornado?

Thanks for the help.

Quite a bit stronger, more flare, easier to control. The Avalanche has a much more advanced weight block and a decent coverstock, making it a much better ball than the Tornado.

The Avalanche Pearl is stronger, and has more flare than a Tornado?
RG Diff on Tornado = .034 (16 lbs), .040 (15 lbs)
RG DIff on AP = .024
BrunsRico has already said that the AP makes a better dry lanes ball than the Power Groove Dry/R, the smallest hooking ball made by Brunswick prior to the AP. That makes the AP a fairly weak ball by general standards and very good for playing fairly dry lanes.

Meanwhile, I'm not saying the Tornado is a better ball; it's just a different ball. It might offer some degree of control over the Tornado, but that's as far as I would go.

I don't quite see how the AP is stronger than the Tornado. I don't see how the core is "more advanced" than the Tornado's, which is VERY similar to the Power Groove's. While both are based on a pancake core, they are NOT a simple pancake core ball.

I'd guess that the EBonite Super Tack Plus Reactive coverstock was slightly stronger than the N'Control Power Boost. Again, that doesn't make the Tornado better or worse, just different.

I'd put the Tornado in the same class as the Power Groove pearls; both are different from the AP.

If anything, the main advantage of the AP is in its lower RG core.

IMHO having owned both of these balls, there is no comparison. The lightbulb core in the Avalanche (though old design) rolls light years better than the pancake and puck in the Tornado! It gets down the lane well but has a much more controllable breakpoint. With a little surface, the Avalanche actually works well on medium oil conditions, something the Tornado could not do with any surface.I would take a lightbulb core over a pancake and puck anyday!

glad you're happy with it; it still doesn't mean everyone will be. As for medium oil, given what BrunsRico said about it, maybe your 350 rpms rev rate makes you the exception for this ball. I still feel they are basically different balls, and thedjs should recognize that there are differences. It's not a black and white, good and bad situation.

The Avalanche Pearl is a great ball. The N'control coverstock hits and carries extremely very well.
