Almost Trey with the Scorchin
« on: May 26, 2006, 02:31:02 AM »
Specs: 15.04lbs, 2.5 top, 3 inch pin

I drilled up my Scorchin Inferno Wednesday after work. When i looked at the label i thought to myself this ball might actually be a second. I know Brunswick never marks their second balls. The pin was under and in line with the Big B Symbol and the CG was shifted left between th Big B symbol and Scorchin Inferno Label down below. It was odd.

Anyway, i layed this ball Pin over ring finger with the CG directly under in the stacked position. Since the CG and Pin was in an odd position this made the static weights measure out to 1 side and 1-1/8 finger. I drilled the fingers deeper and it didn't make the finger weight go down too much because since i don't use inserts i cannot take out too much. So i drilled an X-hole on my axis
with a 21/64 drill bit which is very small. I took it down to a a 1/4 side and almost 3/4 finger. I changed the surface using Clean and Smooth 1500 grit. It gave it a very smooth finish.

Having never practice with the ball i took it to league last night. The house i was bowling at are old wood lanes. The shot looked like a long top hat with dry outsides. Everyone right hander was stading deep and using the oil in the middle. Some were swinging to the dry and some were just going striaght up the middle to the pocket.

First game i was trying to swing to the dry and was getting a lot of over and under. The ball either went out and hooked up early or if i kept it in it came up light. I was playing like 14 to 8 majority of the time. On this game i was using my polished Absolute Inferno. I had 2 or 3 splits. I shot 169. Yuck.

Game two i said let's try the Scorching Inferno. I'll move inside and use the oil and go straighter. I decided to play 16 to 12. It was the best decision i made all night. I threw a few in a row. Spared once or twice and ended up with a 245. Not bad.

Game 3 i started to tighten up the shot because the lanes started to break down. I switch my line to 22 to 18 doing a fall back shot. This ball just skided in front, revs in the mid lane and killed the pocket. I had the front 9. Tenth frame i got up there and threw it in the same spot but it look it was going to go high but set up and went high flush. 11th shot was dead flush. On the 12th i didn't get a firm release and it came up light leaving a nasty 5-7. AHAH! 298!!! Oh well. Not bad for the first time using this ball. Hee hee.

Just wanted to share a little something with you Brunswick Nation people.

Scorhin rolls great. Great oil ball and looking forward to throwing it on other conditions and lane surfaces.

Have a great day all!

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to chime in on this, because Jonathan and I are on the same team. Jonathan and I have similar rev-rates (high end tweeners), but he is a little faster in speed than I am (I'm around 15.5-16mph), but Jon is around 16-17mph at the pindeck.

The Long Top-Hat had considerably dry outside boards. But the shot was kinda tricky...you get it out early and it would jump on you. You feed it out too late, you'll 2-8-10(right hander) or leave a bucket.

I started slow with a 185 using a Factory Polished One playing straight up 12-15 boards. Then I switched to the Big one and finished off with 246-225 playing the similar 22-18 fall back shot line that Jonathan and some of the other guys on our pair were playing.

His Scorchin' looked great on this shot. It revved up nice and had great read in the middle. One thing I noticed about everyone that has the Scorchin' is that it reads the mids real well, but still has a lot of energy for the back.
Looks like the Track Clean N' Smooth cover preparation made for a nice combination as well.

Something tells me that a Polished Scorchin' would be a scary ball as well!

Props to Jonathan, nice bowling man, and you'll get that Trey again soon hehe.

Peace up...A-town down,
Ram
