Want something new..
« on: January 18, 2006, 02:43:49 PM »
I want something new but can't decide what.

I have:

Ultimate
OI
Red Pin Zone Classic

I haven't been getting along with the RPZC, mostly due to the carrydown.  It seems to really squirt on carrydown, but I still need that push in the mids.  So, I was considering a Punisher or maybe a the new Scorchin just for fun.

wait for the Scorchin, it'sgoing to be a monster!!! if you got some change left grab a Punisher to take the place of that classic zone red pin.

I heard they were pretty backed with the orders for Rampages.  I am going to need something for Nationals, that I can get it with that won't puke on the backend.  The RPZC is great, but very condition specific.  I needs NO oil down lane, when that happens it works and carries perfectly.

I was thinking a Rampage or Punisher, 5 x 4 or something along those lines.

If you are looking for traction on carrydown, consider the Ambush - unless you expect only light oil. I heard the Ambush is a nice, smooth control piece for late games, but it is pretty strong.

Get a Goliath for the hell of it and go 1000, 2000, then 4000 Abralon on top of the box finish.  It's a Carrydown Killer(If you're not trying to go 25-5 with it).

I think the Ambush would be too strong for what I need.  I'd hate to buy a ball just for nationals, but I don't have anything I can swing say 20-10 that is going to push up front and pop enough in the back to carry on lighter conditions.  I have generally had trouble with so-called light oil balls, generally siding with a weaker ball is a better choice for me.

I don't need the SI, as I have the UI.  Looks pretty though.  I guess it is between the Rampage and Punisher.

Another mad idea: if you are looking for control, what about a Black Sparkle Power Groove, shined up a bit or with a high grit finish? Least aggressive particle ball Brunswick has to offer at the moment, and with some surface prep surely useable on the same conditiosn as a Rampage or even a Punisher - just with a more arcing, controllable particle reaction? I have seen some bowlers around here having greta success with these balls, even for spare shooting!

Andrew, I guess what it comes down to is how you want to play the lanes with this new piece.  IME the Punisher is great if you can go up the boards or play more direct near the oil line, but it doesn't do the left-to-right thing well.  The Rampage is nominally stronger, but recovers *much* better than the Punisher.

My Punisher has pretty much been relegated to the "trick ball" bag, as the Ramp has proven to be much more versatile for me.
