How good is Groove Urethane
« on: October 14, 2007, 09:39:02 AM »
Lanes I bowl on are always too dry for My Vibe. Ready to give the Urethane a try. Just wonder if these balls would hit and carry as good as say, a Power Groove Reactive? The ball will be just 14 lbs.

Thanks!

The (sanded) Urethane Groove has pretty much traction, it is a very smooth piece. But it just has a pancake core, so some real roll will hardly occur. Works well on medium and less oil, especially for lower speeds.
I cannot tell anything about differences to the current polished ball - I guess they changed the OOB finish because the sanded surface was pretty grippy, almost too much for those who'd use it as a spare ball.

BEsides, the PG Dry/R is a very good light oil/dry lane ball choice. A very weak reactive cover, paired with somje good differential. As a strike ball, I'd prefer the Dry/R.

The Polished Urethane Groove would be a great piece for the dry. I like to use it in dry lane stuff and only notice a lack of hit when pulled into the oil. Even then, I am still able to throw a few messangers on the soft 7s it leaves. This ball allows you to over hit it and not watch it over-react. The ball is also very smooth and for just a three piece it does get into a roll quickly. I drilled this ball up as a spare ball, but it has become my favorite ball in my bag that consit of a T-Road Solid, 2 TNVs, and Equation. My first game using this ball was 300 in practice and then over the weekend I used it to qualify for my local association masters tournament on a Cheetah pattern. I got mine off ebay for $10.50 and I believe there is still a few more on there.

Good luck in your choice.

I like my urethane groove on the right condition. I actually think I had it drilled wrong (High pin).I should have drilled it stronger. Its is good for me when it is dull and I have dry boards to the left (lefty). Its shines up quickly, when it does forget about handling and type of oil. I have to hit the whole high flush or with a swisher or it won't carry. Not to say it doesn't hit hard when it gets to the pocket, its just not very forgiving. It will keep you out of trouble, just make your spares. Carry will suffer on whatever condition you throw it on as far as I concerned. I want to get another one and drill it strong just to cure my curiosity, but I'm thinking weak reactive is the way to go. 2cents

Thanks a lot guys! Now I am more inclined to the Dry/R but if I do get the polished Urethane I'll drill it stronger.

There are actually quite a few people looking for a urethane with a strong core but can't find one.....
