International balls
« on: April 29, 2005, 10:34:30 AM »
Are these balls approved for use here in the states?  Some of them look really interesting.  How do they perform on our lanes?  The ads say they are developed for asian conditions.

Do you know how they compare to the stuff they offer in the states?  Is there a big difference?

I only ask because I seem to have better luck with symmetric cores (Nemesis, Track Thrash, Vendetta) and most of the international stuff looks more in line with the cores that I've been successful with.

The Red Alert LTD. looks very interesting.

Normally, the international balls are going directly to Asia, and they have a fast (!) renewal rate. Getting the one you are looking for is hard. Best bet is to look at ebay or dig through proshop websites. You might find some leftovers when Pro shops ordered them and did not sell all of them at once.

Ordering one through a pro-shop is difficult, since the balls get replaced VERY fast in the Brusnwick assortment. You can give it a try, but there is not much hope.

My local pro shop guy regularly orders some international balls, but he does not get all of them. He had, for instance, the Danger Zone III and IV, both Explosion Zones, but did not get hands on the Smart Zones and the Bionic Zones. But he had the Red Alert LTD and now a contingent of the brand new Red Alert 300. What I heard is that there are 2 new Zones in the pipeline ("Majestic Zone"), but there are no specs available, nor technical data.

As far as I know these balls are all legal, since they are made for official tournaments. Could be that they are optimized for a spinner release, which is popular in Asia.

By the way: the Red Alert LTD is pretty much the same as the BVP Nemesis. It just has a different core, but even the technical specs are pretty equal. And the Red Alert 300 IS a Zone Classic in different guise. But they look cool...

I have two Big B international balls in my bag.
Smart Zone 1 is SS Extreme is the same family as N'Control Power Boost (which is on the Punisher) but is stronger.
Bionic Zone 2 has Pk22 and is extremely similar to PK18.
They are definatly cleared and legal in the US. I had double honors with my Smart Zone 1 this past December.
I have a spare Bionic Zone 2 NIB, light #15 I might part with if the price is right. It's a great oil ball. Very smooth read.

Thanks!  I guess I'll just stick with my Nemesis.  I thought it would be cool to have something completely different (look-wise).  Unfortunately I don't want to spend $130-150 for something that will give me the same reaction as my $95 BVP.

I'll keep looking in case I can find a deal!  I did see a Bionic (don't remember if it was 1 or 2) on eBay about 2 weeks ago - it ended up going for about $60.  I should have bidded on it!

The bionic zone 1 has the bvp inverted bell weightblock and the skid/snap cover.

By comparing the nimbers, it shows to be a bit stronger than the punisher, but that has to be the cover cause the rg and diff numbers are the same.

Saw this today in my never-ending quest to find a reasonably priced international/overseas ball.  Looks to be in good shape - too bad I need 14lb!

[whine] I never find any good balls in 14lb, it's not fair! [/whine]

BrunSlinger,
Try a Punisher, it should be close to the Bionic 1 you're looking for.  Even the colors look similar. Same core and a pearl cover, just scuff it abit

Majestic I - medium ball with good coverstock-very tacky.

Rg ?, Diff .42, New Coverstock

Majestic II - straight shooters delight.  Strong finishing ball.  No roll out. Mika would love this ball

Rg 2.52 Diff .56 (Highest Diff on any Brunswick ball for a while.) PK 22
